Snorunt Fortunes

There exists an old superstition that Snorunts bring luck and good fortune to those that treasure them. 'Look into a rich man's past, and you will find a Snorunt there' is something you might hear older relatives to explain why some of us enjoy more fortune than others.

Well. It turns out those old people are right. Up to a point, at least.

Whether they actually bring good and bad luck themselves or if there is some luck-giving entity that is just very concerned with Snorunt Treatment is something that can be discussed at length, but the fact remains that how you treat a Snorunt can definitely affect your luck in life. And today, characters get to experience that for themselves.





In addition to the normal swarm mechanic (where characters can find and catch Snorunts on any route today), we are offering a little extra today that can greatly affect your character's fortunes during the rest of the month. What you have to do is quite simple!

Comment on this post with your character, and how they might be dealing with the Snorunts swarming everywhere. Are they ignoring them? Trying to catch them? Will they play with them, and if a Snorunt tries to get into their home, how will they react? Don't worry, we are not looking for an essay, just a few line or two is enough.

Based on that, your character will receive one of five fortunes for the month of January. These range from Great Luck, Just a bit Lucky, ??? Luck, Just a bit unlucky, to Great Misfortune and can affect anything from making your character particularly vulnerable to tiny little mishaps or fortunes to actually affecting things like the likeliness of them encountering/breeding a shiny pokemon or how many levels their pokemon can gain.


Mind you though, that these Snorunt are rather unpredictable. What could lead to a great fortune from one Snorunt could be taken as a complete insult by another Snorunt. Like someone once said, life is like a completely randomly decided fortune by some website generator; you never know what you are going to get!

Oh, and as always, this event is entirely optional!

YOU KNOW WHAT, she's not a heartless person and will be mostly insanely confused at how these snorunt got here. She's never seen them on these islands, what the heck, dudes. CAN YOU MIGRATE SOMEHOW????

Which means she'll mostly be trying to follow them to see where the heck they wander off to and shoo them the heck out of the houseboat, but otherwise not be rude but also not super nice to them or anything.

She's going to give all of them treats and try to play with them. Look at them. The lil critters are so cute, it's not like she can help herself!!

Hilariously I think this is the first swarm Speebs has ever dealt with, so that's fun.

Anyway, he'll mostly be ignoring the snorunts unless they get into his home, which in that case he'll just be setting out food for them.

And also keeping his salazzle far away from them because SHE'S RUDE AND WILL FIND THEM INTRUDERS and no one wants the poor things to get hurt.

Steve may well catch one of these little guys! They're pretty cool.

One is enough though, and they're probably going to start annoying him after a while. So there will be yelling and chasing if any of them keep pestering him later on in the day.

Will this come back to bite him? Let's find out.

Jaskier was going to ignore them, but his Luxio wants to play. He will be chasing the Snorunts through the snow! It's playful pawing, but it one of the Snorunts ends up being knocked off or something, Jaskier will offer them a berry as an apology.

While not all the Snorunts are wowed by his choice of music, overall they enjoy his performance.

As a reward, Greg will be experiencing A Bit of Good Luck throughout January in the form of every vending machine giving out two items whenever he buys something.

Actually, they're kind of cute... so Akane will be very much in 'awwww, cute pokemon' mode.

(Unless one of them tries to look up her skirt. In which case, they're getting kicked.)

For some reason, the Snorunts are thrilled to have Jolyne follow them around -- maybe they see it as a sign of respect?-- and don't even seem too bothered by being shooed out of the house boat.

As a reward, Jolyne will be experiencing Great Fortune throughout January through the development of a small but very dedicated group of fans to her Poke-Butt Photography. Turns out Lance might not appreciate them all that much, but some of the league admins do. They've even set up a forum! And are starting to send her requests for certain butts. Surely there is money in this.

Claudia ends up with one in a ball, just because of the sheer number of Snorunt all around her.

She's gonna see if she can get some of them to stay still long enough to sketch them.

Marvus is on the road rn and doesn't have much to give these little guys but he'll chat to them like pets if they amble across his path. Ask them if they're cold. They kinda look cold! Tell them he's seen a lot of them today, is there a little cold coat guys party or what? That sort of thing.

He's on his very first route so he's waiting until he understands the mechanics better to start catching pokemon.

They do get some startled barks from Marvus' Poochyena.

The Snorunts are not too sure what to think of the faygo Soda Pop. Or this strange child who honks a lot.

As a result, Karako will be experiencing ??? Luck for the rest of January in the form of a very nurturing Swanna who has decided Karako must be a lost Ducklett of sorts (If a particularly ugly one) and will be trying to take him under her wing. She cannot be dissuaded. He will be nurtured.

Unfortunately, the Snorunts Mira will be running into are a particularly grumpy sort who take themselves very seriously. Her attempts at playing are not appreciated (though the treats are)

As a result, Mira will be experiencing A Bit of Bad Luck for the rest of January in the form of every book she'd like to check out from the library being on some sort of waitlist. (Has everybody decided to reread them all at the same time?) Or mysteriously missing. Or somehow lacking in half the pages when she finally does lay her hand on it.

Because it looks like they're clutching clothes around them for warmth, the first thing Kirishima's going to do when he sees a Snorunt waddling up some sidewalk in Goldenrod is pull off his hoodie and offer to bundle the thing up. Then he'll offer to transport it to wherever it's headed. Oh, to the park to eat the deep snow? That's cool... At least his roomie has a bunch of fire Pokemon to dry the hoodie off later.

Mostly Steven is chill (ha) with these little guys as long as they stay outside where they belong, but if he catches any of them sneaking into Fight Club, they're getting gently but firmly escorted out. Sorry little guys, but he wants Fight Club to stay warm.

Midway through the day, he does a little research and finds out that the females can evolve into Froslass (a part ghost type!) when exposed to the right kind of stone, which means he has to catch one. If he ends up catching a male first, he'll probably give it to Lanque.

As they were mostly ignored by Speedwagon, the Snorunts were unable to build up any sort of impression of him.

As a result, he'll be receiving ??? Luck throughout January in the form of a secret admirer. Unfortunately, his secret admirer's name is Mia, she is five and she will cry if her loving gifts (mostly drawings of... well, we think this blob is Speedwagon in any case) go rejected.

The Snorunts had a pretty good impression of Steve. Until the yelling started. That soured them a litte.

As a result, he'll be experiencing A Bit of Bad Luck during January, in the form of stepping in some sort of puddle each time he's wearing socks. Even if he just scoured the floor for any sign of wetness, his socks will manage to find that one tiny puddle he missed.

Shinobu will probably end up sketching them. Any that come to investigate him and/or his pokemon will be politely asked what they want, with Shinobu's responses varying based on the answers he gets (Snorunts who are Up To No Good will either be gently but firmly directed elsewhere or diverted by Shinobu's Aurorus Fuyu, who is always up for playing with other Ice-Types; others get treats, etc.). Fuyu will probably try to play with any who seem amenable to it, up to and including giving them dinosaur-back rides. As big as she is, she is thankfully still graceful enough to avoid stepping on them.

He might also end up with one in a PokeBall, if any decide they want to stick around, but he's not trying for it.

The thing about Emet's house is that it has an open skyport over the garden, so what Dirk wakes up to is a Snorunt eating one of his energy bars while going through his shit.

Not feeling up to these kinds of shenanigans right now, Dirk finds a Love Ball, which he sets down on the floor, suggesting that the Snorunt can either get itself caught or "get lost and come back later."

Unfortunately, the Snorunts see Jaskier's Luxio's attempt at play as anything but. And to get knocked in the snow too! Horrendous.

As a result, Jaskier will be experiecing Great Misfortune during January in the form of one of the many young bugcatchers on the route getting a bit ticked at him (did Jaskier beat him in battle, catch the pokemon he was trying to catch or was he just there at the wrong time?) and coming up with a very unflattering song about Jaskier in retaliation. The words 'smells like farts' are definitely part of it.

Worst part is, it is catchy. It is ridiculously catchy. It's an earworm of unparalleled earwormyness, so Jaskier will be hearing it everywhere he goes.

As a result, Akane will be receiving A Bit of Bad Luck throughout January in the form of meeting nothing but Zubats out on the road. Even where there are not supposed to be any Zubats, there will be Zubats. So many Zubats.

Felix is on the road, but the group is taking shelter in a huge tent for now until this blizzard passes. When he's out in the snow training his team until it gets too cold to continue, the Snorunts are perfect training fodder, and his Pokemon will battle them for practice until they stop coming or the team gets tired, whichever comes first. If a Snorunt gets into the tent, Felix will be very irritable--there's hardly enough room in there as it is with all the people and Pokemon!--and will intimidate/threaten them into leaving if he must. If they still don't, he's gonna send his Honedge to chase them off.

The Snorunts aren't sure what to think of getting sketched.

As a result, Claudia will be receiving ??? Luck in the form of a small Teddiursa who will not stop following her. It's hard to say where it comes from or why it has chosen her, but it is there. All the time.
