Return of the Snorunt Fortunes

There exists an old superstition that Snorunts bring luck and good fortune to those that treasure them. 'Look into a rich man's past, and you will find a Snorunt there' is something you might hear from older relatives to explain why some of us enjoy more fortune than others.

Well. It turns out those old people are right. Up to a point, at least.

Whether they actually bring good or bad luck themselves or if there is some luck-giving entity that is just very concerned with Snorunt Treatment is something that can be discussed at length, but the fact remains that how you treat a Snorunt can definitely affect your luck in life. And today, characters get to experience that for themselves.





Today, wherever your character may roam, they'll find Snorunts there. Even if they just stay at home, they might find their garden teeming with Snorunts or that the little creatures have somehow managed to get into their kitchen and have turned their fridge into a nice little hang-out. It's almost like a normal swarm, and it is possible for characters to catch the Snorunts if they want, however, unlike a normal swarm, the way your character interacts with the Snorunts will affect their luck for the duration of a month (from the fifth of January to the fifth of February).

Comment on this post with your character, and how they might be dealing with the Snorunts swarming everywhere. Are they ignoring them? Trying to catch them? Will they play with them, and if a Snorunt tries to get into their home, how will they react? Don't worry, we are not looking for an essay, just a line or two is enough.

Based on that, your character will receive one of five fortunes for the coming month. These range from Great Luck, Just a bit Lucky, ??? Luck, Just a bit unlucky, to Great Misfortune and can affect anything from making your character particularly vulnerable to tiny little mishaps or fortunes to actually affecting things like the likeliness of them encountering/breeding a shiny pokemon or how many levels their pokemon can gain.


Mind you though, that these Snorunt are rather unpredictable. What could lead to a great fortune from one Snorunt could be taken as a complete insult by another Snorunt. Like someone once said, life is like a completely randomly decided fortune by some website generator; you never know what you are going to get!

Oh, and as always, this event is entirely optional!

Delighted by the visit of such lovely creatures, Cecil opens up the Lunar Gym's doors to allow them in if they wish. They're even welcome to help themselves to the leftovers in the kitchen! But he's been working all night, you know, so he might just go and collapse in his office while they're here. Thank goodness his Pokémon are there to play hosts.

Since today is actually Steven's birthday, he's probably eating cake when a Snorunt shows? He'll cut them a small piece, just to be polite.

It is fine, actually! Maybe it's because Carly and her employees aren't making a big deal of it, or maybe these Snorunt just have somewhat lower standards, but she has a Pretty Lucky time this month.

If she's in the habit of using vending machines, she'll find she has a tendency to get a bonus item with her purchase. Not every time, and it's not always the same item she bought one of to begin with (although she gets that too), but who's gonna complain about a free roll cake with their soda pop, right?

How nice of Snorunt to show up at the observatory while Shiro's on the scope! He'll offer to lift them up to check the neat stars, if they want.

Shadowmaru will, of course, invite them to play with his own pokemon. However, since he now has a walking glitter bomb of a Null, that... may not go over all too well.

He does have a lot of dogs, though.

With Eri, they may as well have found a kindred spirit with how young she is. LOOK AT ALL OF THESE NEW FRIENDS!!! Eri will play with all of them alllllll day until she gets tired and needs to be carried off to bed, or the Snorunt decide to head off… whichever comes first, really.

Sasha, berry farmer that she is, will find she's having some ???? Luck this month, as one of her berry bushes begins sprouting potatoes. Like, instead of berries, there are potatoes hanging down. They're human-edible, even.

ROSE LOVES THE SNORUNTS! She will sing to them and welcome them into the caravan and tell them stories and just generally be delighted by it all in traditional Rose fashion.

Considering that Ochako is in Olivine City for a spell, where it's a bit warmer than the Snorunts probably like, she's going to actually be a little worried about them and have her Frosmoth, Sorbet, cool them off with some chilly breezes from her wings from time to time. And, of course, offering them some ice cream and/or chilly drinks from time to time.

She thinks the Snorunts are terribly cute, and most of her hours are spent training on the beach or watching them play and such. Or playing with them of course. She won't actively try to catch one, but if any of them wants to hang around after, she'll be glad to have them join her team.

Izuku, as it turns out, hasn't encountered the Snorunt before! He has no idea of the varying levels of luck and misfortune they can bring to people, and if anything he just assumes it's yet another swarm going on. Now, the time before he met his Breloom resulted in him nearly losing his hair to a Sandile, so he is going to be...cautious...

But these are just lil' guys. How much harm could they do, really?

BUT ANYWAY, Izuku's response when he encounters the Snorunt is to be friendly with them, of course. He always keeps treats in his bag for his team, so he's more than happy to share. The only potential issue is that Mighty, (his level 99 Eevee) is a little...rambunctious, and is definitely going to want to play with them, which might result in some roughhousing. Possibly even some battling? Look sometimes we get carried away over here, it happens.

Though Legosi feels a closer kindred spirit to his ever loved bug (and canine) Pokemon, the little Snorunt are amusing, not to mention cute. He's going to leave some berries and things out for them, but he does also notice that they seem to enjoy the snowy weather...

He's going to try to make a few little mini snow-men for them that he'll set the berries at the feet of. Or, maybe they're snow-pokemon? Snow...animals of some vauge sort of shape? They're not...the BEST looking and are kindof lumpy, but he did his best.

Last year, the Snorunts granted Claude some decent personal luck! And some very questionable group-based luck re: the travel group, but oh well. As a result, regardless of whatever happens this year, Claude feels like he needs to repay the Snorunts for their kindness from last year.

So once they start appearing again, Claude promptly goes out and buys a massive number of poffins, and offers the Snorunts he sees their choice of poffin in gratitude for his luck last year. A mini-feast, if you will. Hopefully they take it well, although Claude expects he doesn't have much control over what they do this year. (Otherwise he might attempt straightforward bribes, but then probably everyone else would be doing the same.) But he's still determined to acknowledge and thank them for their kindness last year, whatever happens this time around.

Hawks wasn't around for the Snorunts last year, and has no idea what to make of them this year. He bemusedly examines a couple of them from multiple angles, mostly just trying to get a sense for what they even...are...?, but beyond that doesn't bother them. He treats them with relatively respectful courtesy, but generally doesn't pay attention to them unless they're unavoidably present.

Greg likes these little guys! Like his wife, Rose, he'll invite them into the caravan--and in Greg's case, he'll also play guitar for them. Maybe he'll try making friends with one.

Shoto knows these turn into ghost types if they're female, he's interested in finding a very kind friend for his already grumpy ghostlady. Maybe she won't be so grumpy and death glare him if she has a friend of her own. Shoto isn't versed enough to know if they're female or male but as long as they're kind and want to join on the pleasestopglaringdeath brigade he's all for the interview conducted by the Meowstic who knows better than to let Shoto think he can understand what's being said.

OOCly I haven't decided if he's actually going to get another one, but this is too cute to pass up.

Like she did last year, Claudia's probably going to sketch the ones she encounters. Maybe share some of her candy stash with them. She's got a lot of candy cane left over from Christmas still.

The Snorunts won't get in the way of his yoga stretches, though they do demand to join in. Unfortunately, they are not very stretchy, and therefore aren't sure if they like this nonsense.

As a result, Lance will receive some ??? luck in the form of his Staryutube channel going viral during the coming month, drawing in a lot of added attention, and perhaps even a sponsorship or two. Unfortunately, the event that makes him go viral, to begin with, is when someone records a video of his pants splitting while he is doing his yoga stretches one morning.

OH THEY'RE BACK!! Jinx will let Lumi- the snorunt who decided to come with her the last time this happened and then evolved into a froslass- out to play with her kin, and sort of watch everything with a sort of melancholy. If any come by to her, she will treat them kindly and will even play with them if they bully her enough, no matter how much she hates the cold.

Having shifted his roster around recently, Louie sees the Snorunt as a training opportunity… For Nickel specifically, since Crown and Larimar don’t fair so well against ice types, being a Roserade and a Quagsire, respectively. While Nickel isn’t viscous in battle like Shilling, the level 57 Granbull is taking training very seriously! So he won’t go overboard, but he won’t pull punches either.

Since Oikawa's still new to the world he's in that state of being confused yet curious, after all he arrived three days prior to these guys showing up. These cute little guys, in his opinion.

His Shinx, Iwa-chan, will stick next to him while his quiet little Pidgey, Kotori, will hop up near them due to being curious about the Snorunt. Oikawa himself is calling all of them cute and just watching them mostly.

He might play with them if enough of them are playing together, but he'd rather watch them.

Who wouldn't be absolutely swept off their feet by being handed little snowballs from an adorable baby pokemon? The Snorunts sure aren't among this number!

As a result, Jaskier will be experiencing Great Luck in the coming month, in the form of finding fans wherever he goes. It seems like his music has really hit a chord, pardon the pun, with people this month, and in any city he visits, he'll be the talk of the town. People will ask for pictures and autographs. If he visits a restaurant, the owners will all but force him to accept free meals. Bar visits? The free drinks just keep coming. His music will be hummed everywhere. He's the center of attention and isn't that where he thrives?

The Snorunts are more than happy to make mischief and are quite pleased with Ardyn's attention right until his Zorua gets them all into a bit more trouble than they wanted. And they won't stand for that!

As a result, Ardyn will be experiencing Terrible luck during the coming month, in the form of some stalkers. The stalkers are a trio of Impidimps who have decided that Ardyn is the perfect victim for their various practical jokes. Whether it is itching powder in his shorts, pepper in his food or the terrible trio jumping out unexpectedly to scare him, Ardyn will have to deal with all that and more.

(It won't be possible to catch the Impidimps during the month, but once the month is over, he is free to catch one or even all of them.)

The Snorunts will see Dimitri. They will see him turn tail and run and isn't that just terribly rude? Just the very rudest!

As a result, Dimitri will be experiencing Terrible Luck during the coming month in the form of always finding his travels disrupted in some way. If he's trying to cross a route, somehow there is a herd of Tauros taking up all the space. If he tries to travel by train, the train will break down, which has literally not ever happened in the last decade. Try to fly somewhere? Hit in the face by a bug that shouldn't even by flying up this high. Please, for the love of Arceus, don't even try to get on a ferry.

He'll be able to get where he is going eventually. It's just never as smoothly as he hoped for.

OH, this guy! The Snorunts remember this guy. Well, at least the snacks he's sharing go a long way towards warming them up, but they are still somewhat Unsure.

As a result, Doppio will be experiencing ??? Luck throughout the coming month in the form of... a pack of Yamper. For whatever reason, this pack of wild Yamper have decided that Doppio is one of them. This means they'll follow him wherever he goes all throughout this month. It's adorable, sure, to see that many wagging tails and heart-shaped butts, but you try going to the toilet when about eight Yamper demand to be in that room with you. And they aren't even his pokemon! They just showed up!

No matter what Doppio tries, they'll be there.
