Return of the Snorunt Fortunes

There exists an old superstition that Snorunts bring luck and good fortune to those that treasure them. 'Look into a rich man's past, and you will find a Snorunt there' is something you might hear from older relatives to explain why some of us enjoy more fortune than others.

Well. It turns out those old people are right. Up to a point, at least.

Whether they actually bring good or bad luck themselves or if there is some luck-giving entity that is just very concerned with Snorunt Treatment is something that can be discussed at length, but the fact remains that how you treat a Snorunt can definitely affect your luck in life. And today, characters get to experience that for themselves.





Today, wherever your character may roam, they'll find Snorunts there. Even if they just stay at home, they might find their garden teeming with Snorunts or that the little creatures have somehow managed to get into their kitchen and have turned their fridge into a nice little hang-out. It's almost like a normal swarm, and it is possible for characters to catch the Snorunts if they want, however, unlike a normal swarm, the way your character interacts with the Snorunts will affect their luck for the duration of a month (from the fifth of January to the fifth of February).

Comment on this post with your character, and how they might be dealing with the Snorunts swarming everywhere. Are they ignoring them? Trying to catch them? Will they play with them, and if a Snorunt tries to get into their home, how will they react? Don't worry, we are not looking for an essay, just a line or two is enough.

Based on that, your character will receive one of five fortunes for the coming month. These range from Great Luck, Just a bit Lucky, ??? Luck, Just a bit unlucky, to Great Misfortune and can affect anything from making your character particularly vulnerable to tiny little mishaps or fortunes to actually affecting things like the likeliness of them encountering/breeding a shiny pokemon or how many levels their pokemon can gain.


Mind you though, that these Snorunt are rather unpredictable. What could lead to a great fortune from one Snorunt could be taken as a complete insult by another Snorunt. Like someone once said, life is like a completely randomly decided fortune by some website generator; you never know what you are going to get!

Oh, and as always, this event is entirely optional!

Izuku's treats are a huge hit among the Snorunts, except for one of them who just happens to be on keto this month, and it cannot believe Izuku dared to offer it a treat. Do you even know how many carbs there are in those?

As a result, Izuku will be suffering from a bit of bad luck throughout the month. This comes in the form of Ochako's ten secret admirers coming to believe he is an eleventh rival for her affections. It is impossible to argue with them, no logic will penetrate their minds. They just know he wants her heart too.

Izuku better be prepared to field a lot of battle challenges from all ten of them. Luckily they won't go beyond that, but, still, it's a bit of a hassle.

Ashe didn't encounter the Snorunt last year so he doesn't know the reason behind many of the reactions to the house. Besides, Ky eyeing them suspiciously while Loog hides and his Growlithe plays with them Ashe will offer them some food too. He'll play with them for a bit as well. They don't look very dangerous.

Mikasa is going to be traveling from Violet City to Azalea Town with Yachi. She might offer them a few berries if they get close enough. Otherwise she'll mostly just look from a distance and ignore them. She's not chasing them, they can make the first move.


...Her Riolu is a little shit though and will try to fight them all, even with Mikasa trying to get him back.

Legosi did his very best on those snow-animals. Unfortunately, this group of Snorunts are art aficionados, and they are not impressed by Legosi's lumpy offerings.

As a result, Legosi will be suffering from Very Bad Luck throughout the month which will manifest itself in Legosi seeing the most amazing bugs all throughout the month, but the moment he tries to get closer or even catch them, those bugs will immediately be chased off by a very grumpy and scraggly looking Fearow that seems to be... stalking him? It's definitely always the same Fearow. Did he offend it in some way? Is it just after the beautiful (delicious) bugs Legosi keeps finding?

Once again Lanque's Furfrou takes notice of these little guys, and once again he does nothing to stop his Pokemon from attempting to make them into a chew toy. Last time this worked out for him, not that he really cares nor attributes the actions to the fortune he received, but I guess we'll see if history repeats itself, eh?

Scrooge is busy spending his time training, and will notice the Snorunt everywhere. He's not going to make a special effort to catch one, since he tends to save his Pokeballs (go figure), but if any get particularly clingy he'll go ahead and add it to his roster. There'll be some battling here and there, the aforementioned training, but for the most part Scrooge will be more concentrated on his existing Pokemon than the Snorunt everywhere.

Oh, the Snorunts love the poffins. A bit too much, in fact. By the end, Claude has several tummy-aching Snorunts on his hands.

As a result, Claude will be suffering from Very Bad Luck throughout the month. Wherever he goes and whatever he does, Claude will find himself experiencing ridiculous little mishaps. If he sits down, the chair will be inexplicably wet. Walking down the road, his foot will find that one tiny icy patch and send him onto his ass. He'll be spilling drinks and food so often, he'll be doing laundry constantly.

None of the accidents are very dangerous or harmful. Not physically at least. His cool reputation though? Oh that won't survive this.

The fact that Hawks does not turn his full attention on them leaves the Snorunts feeling rather sour.

As a result, Hawks will be experiencing some Very Bad Luck throughout the month in the form of all his bird pokemon simultaneously going through a month-long molt from hell. Feathers will be everywhere. Birds will look like weird ruffled muppets. Some might even need bird-sized sweaters (and where are you going to find those?) to keep warm in this cold weather.

At least, once February actually arrives, all Hawks' birds will have glossy, amazing coats. But until then? Good luck dealing with all those feathers.

Oh, it's these little dudes again!

This year, Kazuki and his baking Pokemon make the Snorunt a proper offering of mochi and mikan, enough for them all to eat. They might as well be some kind of kami, right?

If he does, he'll find that the Fearow is level 37 and also kind of smelly? What is up with this strange wreck of a creature?

The Snorunts do love Greg's guitar play. Not quite as much as they love Rose's singing, but it's good. Decent. Okay.

As a result, Greg will be experiencing Some Good Luck throughout the month. This will manifest through Greg experiencing small, but frequent lucky breaks. If it looks like rain, it won't start drizzling until Greg manages to make it inside. If he is in line at the grocery store, his line will always be quicker than the other lines. It's nothing big, nothing spectacular. Just small little windfalls that make the day just that bit easier.

Shoto's willingness to try for his pokemon rather impresses the Snorunts. What an upstanding young man!

As a result, Shoto will be experiencing Very Good Luck throughout the coming month. This will come in the form of slowly realising that, hey, uh, he actually can understand what is being said.

Did he just learn to talk to pokemon overnight?

Apparently, he did.

As a result, Claudia will be experiencing some ??? luck in the form of constantly being mistaken for someone else. The people doing so are perfectly friendly, and sometimes Claudia might get swept along by their enthusiasm. It's just that she is definitely not this person's cousin's sister's roommate. Or their grandchild. And most definitely not their grandma.

Fluttershy will be very intrigued and curious about the Snorunts, and will find them so adorable. She'll definitely want to talk with them and get to know more about them, and be happy to play with them or sing for them.

Not knowing what Dimitri is freaking out about, Byleth will gladly entertain these small creatures, dispensing treats and quiet company. Regardless of how lively they are, he remains unbothered.

The Snorunts are very happy to see their old companion and the whole thing turns into a big old reunion, during which they will definitely try and coax Jinx into the festivities as well.

As a result, Jinx will be experiencing Very Good Luck during the month. This will take the form of her finding an Ability Candy just out there on the road. Incredible find!

Fortunately, the Snorunts that Louie ran into are the athletic sort who welcome some sparring. Several hours, and many happy battles later, everybody will part as friends.

As a result, Louie will be experiencing Very Good Luck during the month. This will manifest in the form of his pokemon coming down with Pokerus. Is a virus a good thing? Well, it is when it means you only need to train half as hard to obtain the same results.

Mechanically, how this will work is that a pokemon infected with Pokerus can obtain a maximum of 7 levels per week (regardless of whether they are owned by a trainer, a breeder or a rocket), but at half the effort, leaving much room open for other (money-making) matters.

Initially, the virus will only affect Louie's standard party, but it can be spread to the rest of his pokemon. Every day, Louie will be able to infect a total of one (1) new pokemon through contact with his pokemon. He does not necessarily need to own a pokemon to infect.

For Louie, the virus will infect his pokemon for the full month. Should he spread it to any pokemon that he does not own, they will be affected by the virus for two weeks max. Only Louie will be able to spread the virus through the magic of Snorunt Fortunes.

These Snorunt are rather sensitive to flattery, so being called cute by Oikawa does it for them. Yes, they have decided that they like this slightly confused looking human.

As a result, Oikawa will experience a bit of good luck during his month. He will experience this by being able to find a single-use TM on the road that is currently available in stores.

Familiar with the snorunts, he will try being nice to them again. Any Snorunts that wander into his lodge or stables will be treated as guests! Even if this means the trainers who pay for a room now have to share it with a few snorunt.
