Return of the Snorunt Fortunes

There exists an old superstition that Snorunts bring luck and good fortune to those that treasure them. 'Look into a rich man's past, and you will find a Snorunt there' is something you might hear from older relatives to explain why some of us enjoy more fortune than others.

Well. It turns out those old people are right. Up to a point, at least.

Whether they actually bring good or bad luck themselves or if there is some luck-giving entity that is just very concerned with Snorunt Treatment is something that can be discussed at length, but the fact remains that how you treat a Snorunt can definitely affect your luck in life. And today, characters get to experience that for themselves.





Today, wherever your character may roam, they'll find Snorunts there. Even if they just stay at home, they might find their garden teeming with Snorunts or that the little creatures have somehow managed to get into their kitchen and have turned their fridge into a nice little hang-out. It's almost like a normal swarm, and it is possible for characters to catch the Snorunts if they want, however, unlike a normal swarm, the way your character interacts with the Snorunts will affect their luck for the duration of a month (from the fifth of January to the fifth of February).

Comment on this post with your character, and how they might be dealing with the Snorunts swarming everywhere. Are they ignoring them? Trying to catch them? Will they play with them, and if a Snorunt tries to get into their home, how will they react? Don't worry, we are not looking for an essay, just a line or two is enough.

Based on that, your character will receive one of five fortunes for the coming month. These range from Great Luck, Just a bit Lucky, ??? Luck, Just a bit unlucky, to Great Misfortune and can affect anything from making your character particularly vulnerable to tiny little mishaps or fortunes to actually affecting things like the likeliness of them encountering/breeding a shiny pokemon or how many levels their pokemon can gain.


Mind you though, that these Snorunt are rather unpredictable. What could lead to a great fortune from one Snorunt could be taken as a complete insult by another Snorunt. Like someone once said, life is like a completely randomly decided fortune by some website generator; you never know what you are going to get!

Oh, and as always, this event is entirely optional!

Felix's wrath is quite incandescent (really! What is up with that guy!) so soon, Dedue will have several Snorunts trying to seek shelter behind him, clutching at his pant legs, trying to crawl in his shirt, trying everything they can to keep Dedue between them and Felix as a literal wall of meat.

For his valuable services, Dedue will be experiencing Very Good Luck during the rest of the month. Sitting outside his door, he'll find a neatly packaged^* Heavy Duty Boots.

Rei is not certain what to make of these Snorunt, so she spends a very long time quietly observing them. She is content to simply watch them play around outside, and does not go out of her way to interfere. If some of them start to pile up on pathways around Azalea Town, she will carefully brush them aside with a broom so that they do not get stepped on or disturbed. She will leave them offerings of pokemon treats, too, in case they are hungry. She does end up catching one of them, but probably because it decided to be clingy and stick around.

Emet-Selch probably didn't plan for this, but it turns out that the Snorunts love being fetched by his Boltund and tossed outside. In fact, they love it so much, they make a game of it, continuing to sneak back into his house just so the Boltund can remove them once more.

As a result, Emet-Selch will be experiencing Very Good Luck during the rest of the month. For one month, one glorious month, Emet-Selch will be freed from the constant background music that exists everywhere in this world. Unless he purposely puts on music, for 31 blessed days, there will just be silence.

Annette was feeling really pleased this morning, she got the whole place dusted, tidied, and now just had to sweep her huge dust and dirt pile out the door!

...or that was the plan, until she opened the door to a huge swarm of Snorunts, who tromped through her dust pile, spreading it everywhere.

"Oh no, you're getting dust all over yourselves! Just let me...ah, too late. Ok, ok, just let me brush you down before you leave, please?"

Oh no, now she'll have to sweep and dust AGAIN instead of going out to buy groceries, not to mention brushing out a small horde of excitable and adorable Snorunts. How terrible.

The one that tried to crawl underneath his shirt will absolutely be happy to stay with Dedue if given the chance!

Unfortunately, it never quite loses its perchance for trying to hide underneath Dedue's clothes if frightened.

Food and play! Ashe sure knows how to please a Snorunt.

Well, these Snorunts, at least.

As a result, Ashe will be experiencing Very Good Luck. Throughout the coming month, travelling will be a breeze for Ashe. The roads are always clear of any obstructions, the wind forever blows at his back, crowds part around him, and somehow there is always someone around ready to offer him a lift. As a result, his travel time anywhere will be halved!

Mikasa is not making the first move, but actually, that's what this particular group of Snorunts prefer. They are rather haughty and just getting approached by a stranger? That would certainly spoil their moods.

As a result, Mikasa will be experiencing Very Good Luck. During the rest of the month, she will be undeterred by any ledges. You know those things out on the road nobody seems to be able to climb up? Even if they absolutely should be able to? Mikasa can climb. She can climb them so good.

Considering Lanque's attitude towards these poor little creatures, it's really exceptionally lucky they view him so well. Really lucky.

Lanque will, in fact, be experiencing A Bit Of Good Luck during the rest of the month too. This will come in the form of games of chance going in his favour more often than not. It doesn't happen all the time, but often enough that he'll probably be the despair of anyone working at the Goldenrod Game Corner.

Luckily for Scrooge, these Snorunts prefer to be left alone. Sometimes you just want to both exist in the same space without making a huge fuss about the other.

As a result, Scrooge will be experiencing A Bit of Good Luck during the rest of the month. This will come in the form of being rather lucky at finding things out on the road -- nothing spectacularly expensive, but certainly more berries, forgotten potions and lost pokeballs than he normally would.

Yes, they are absolutely gods and it is good Kazuki recognises that.

Unfortunately for Kazuki, his good intentions do end up leading to A Bit of Bad Luck. The Snorunts, apparently impressed by his hospitality, have spread the word and several visitors end up showing up to Kazuki's Inn.

Which should be a good thing, except it turns out those visitors are a large mother Skuntank and her nest of Stunky kits -- kits who are still learning to control their butts.

Basically, it's gonna stink. It's still kind of adorable to see them rolling around in the garden, but, uh... maybe sit upwind of them?

Cassandra remembers the Snorunts. She also remembers having to spend a month in near-total isolation because of the particular curse they visited on her (and with her last friend gone months later, she resents having that month taken from her), so she is less than happy to realize they're back. That doesn't mean she won't be kind or polite to them if they happen to cross her path, but it's largely the sort of wary politeness one presents to a very strong adversary. She suspects this will get her cursed again, but she doesn't really have the energy to care all that much at the moment.

On the other hand, Bella the Midnight Lycanroc seems pretty happy to see them? Granted, she's always happy to see just about anyone...

Having also been around for last year's Snorunt Day, Shinobu at least has some idea what to expect from them. He's also very aware that luck is a very fickle thing and that even blessings may... not be... so whenever he encounters the Snorunts, he is very polite and accommodating. Fuyu is available for Aurorus rides (and is light enough on her feet to be able to avoid stepping on any Snorunts, unless they happen to be into that kind of thing), and Glacée the Froslass, an alumna of last year's Snorunt swarm, is also around to keep an eye on the proceedings and maybe direct some Snorunt mischief elsewhere. For his part, Shinobu will offer sketches, food, conversation - hey, Snorunts can have problems just like any other Pokémon - and maybe some dance lessons.

He just hopes whatever curse he may end up with isn't too bad, because his Pokémon counseling clients are probably going to need sessions themselves once the Snorunts are gone.

Hermione is in the kitchen of the share house Felix kindly invited her to stay at, just finishing up washing dishes.

She turns and accidentally trips right over a couple Snorunts that suddenly appeared right behind her.

After apologising profusely and checking them over for any injuries, she offers both of them some berries from the nearby fruit bowl.

The Snorunts are very pleased with all the attention they are receiving.

For her efforts, Fluttershy will be experiencing A Bit of Good Luck during the month. At some point of your choosing, Fluttershy will be blessed with a short visit of a very rare guest. It won't stay long, and she certainly won't be able to catch it, but isn't it incredible to see something most people will never get to see in their whole lives?

As a result, Senjuro will be experiencing A Bit of Bad Luck during the month. Whenever he gets anywhere close to the water (and there is a lot of that on the Islands), he'll find himself being sprayed by an Alomomola.

Did he... offend this fish in some way? Is it under the impression that Senjuro's wild head of hair means it is on fire? Is the fish perhaps just a dick? All questions, no answers.

Anyway, maybe start carrying a towel everywhere or something.

Dimitri may or may not be a bit of a crybaby. Because these Snorunts? They are absolutely lovely and very happy to join Byleth for tea time. And so polite too!

For the rest of the month, Byleth will be experiencing Very Good Luck. This comes in the form of his mere presence attracting rare pokemon. You know those pokemon that you might have to camp out for a whole week to maybe catch a glimpse of? Byleth walks outside and they are just there, waiting for him. He might even find himself running into rare pokemon that aren't supposed to be anywhere near his current location.

Hythlodaeus is perfectly hospitable and friendly, and yet it is just not enough to satisfy this collection of Snorunts. Unfortunately, we've all dealt with those guests.

As a result, Hythlodaeus will be experiencing Very Bad Luck during the rest of the month. He might not notice it right upon waking up, but it'll definitely become clear the moment he gets dressed. Because all his clothes? Way too big!

Actually, everything kind of seems way too big.

And that's because overnight, Hythlodaeus has shrunk to being 5 feet nothing. He is perfectly fine and healthy and hale in every way, he's just short. Hopefully he didn't keep too much of his stuff on high shelves.

Dave, you just tossed a Snorunt like 20 feet into the air. Who even does that, man?

As a result, Dave will be experiencing A Bit of Bad Luck for the rest of the month. Each time he gets into his bed or sleeping bag, he'll find sand inside. Even if he has been nowhere near sand, there is still sand.

It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere^* apparently.

Less of a nuisance? Honestly, these Snorunts came here to witness the fabled Jolyne. The fact that she is... behaving somewhat takes out all the fun.

As a result, Jolyne will experience A Bit Of Bad Luck during the month. This comes in the form of, well...

You know how when you try to plug in a USB, it never goes right on the first attempt? Even if it was actually the right way around but it still doesn't go in?

That's going to be Jolyne and doors this month.

No matter how well she checks or how often she has opened a particular door before, somehow, this month, she always manages to push when she gotta pull, and pull when she gotta push. Just... try not to run your head into too many doors, okay Jolyne?

The moment Angel catches sight of a Snorunt, she's doing a 180 and walking in the opposite direction. Nope, she's not doing this. She can't be doing this. She's not going to --

Oh, but. They're probably not feeling too great in the heat of the islands, right? And she's learned from her mistakes. If she and her Frosmoth just drop a little Powder Snow off a little ways away from them -- in sight, but way out their business, just in case -- there probably won't be a problem right?

... Right?

Yuya won't need to worry about Yamper too much. These Snorunts are rather playful themselves and eager to play games of tags and chase.

As a result, Yuya will experience Very Good Luck which will arrive in the form of a Shiny Brionne. Yes, he is nowhere near the sea, but that doesn't stop this particular pokemon. It came searching for something and apparently, it found whatever that thing is in Yuya.
