Return of the Snorunt Fortunes

There exists an old superstition that Snorunts bring luck and good fortune to those that treasure them. 'Look into a rich man's past, and you will find a Snorunt there' is something you might hear from older relatives to explain why some of us enjoy more fortune than others.

Well. It turns out those old people are right. Up to a point, at least.

Whether they actually bring good or bad luck themselves or if there is some luck-giving entity that is just very concerned with Snorunt Treatment is something that can be discussed at length, but the fact remains that how you treat a Snorunt can definitely affect your luck in life. And today, characters get to experience that for themselves.





Today, wherever your character may roam, they'll find Snorunts there. Even if they just stay at home, they might find their garden teeming with Snorunts or that the little creatures have somehow managed to get into their kitchen and have turned their fridge into a nice little hang-out. It's almost like a normal swarm, and it is possible for characters to catch the Snorunts if they want, however, unlike a normal swarm, the way your character interacts with the Snorunts will affect their luck for the duration of a month (from the fifth of January to the fifth of February).

Comment on this post with your character, and how they might be dealing with the Snorunts swarming everywhere. Are they ignoring them? Trying to catch them? Will they play with them, and if a Snorunt tries to get into their home, how will they react? Don't worry, we are not looking for an essay, just a line or two is enough.

Based on that, your character will receive one of five fortunes for the coming month. These range from Great Luck, Just a bit Lucky, ??? Luck, Just a bit unlucky, to Great Misfortune and can affect anything from making your character particularly vulnerable to tiny little mishaps or fortunes to actually affecting things like the likeliness of them encountering/breeding a shiny pokemon or how many levels their pokemon can gain.


Mind you though, that these Snorunt are rather unpredictable. What could lead to a great fortune from one Snorunt could be taken as a complete insult by another Snorunt. Like someone once said, life is like a completely randomly decided fortune by some website generator; you never know what you are going to get!

Oh, and as always, this event is entirely optional!

Gongenzaka is doing WINTER TRAINING before it's time for him and his friends to finally set off again from MooMoo Farm. Training is important. It cannot be interrupted...

Yet there are SNORUNT *EVERYWHERE*! Gongenzaka does his best not to disrupt them while keeping to it- he can't let himself falter!

Hopefully, Hot Flashes doesn't explode at the wrong moment while watching from the side?!

Romelle will just play with them. If one wants to come along with her for the long term, then she's cool with that. They kind of cute, honestly.

Keith is focusing on his badge challenge, so he'll definitely try to battle them for training purposes and probably try to catch one.

Well, Emporio is camping around as he goes now, so depending on what the Snorunt are doing, he'll either play with them or let them hang out with him at his campsite. They can even try some curry if they want! Just don't make a mess of that little carriage he's been using guys-

Seeing that she and Keith are on the road to Violet City at the time, Allura doesn't have a ton to offer, but she'll be generally calm and pleasant and generous, because princess. And she does have Pokémon food and treats, along with an on-hand team with a sweet Alolan Vulpix to create lots of ice and snow, and lots of younger, more playful Pokemon too. So here, have some playmates for a couple of hours! (Maybe the princess can be persuaded to join in as well, she could use some loosening up.) She won't try to catch any unless someone wants to come along with her, though.

Well HELLO little snorunts! Jonathan is busy handling matters in Mahogany before he sets off for the badge journey with Speedwagon. This time of year, the lake is rather nicely frosted over, and the cabin is just sort of. Stuck there. On the ice.

All the same, he offers them some delicious pokemon treats!

Carly can't tell if she should fear these guys or WHAT. For now though, she's keeping paranoid distance, and warning her 'employees' to be careful around them. Those snorunts....they can cause some pretty impressive catastrophes...

Or at least some incredibly unfortunate distractions.

Naturally, between herself and the grunts, one by one they're sneaking these guys a toy, a sweet, a playtime session, a cuddly moment-

Sasha will offer them food! Clearly if they're coming around humans from the wild, they must be hungry. Come, look inside her magical bag of snacks!

Lance won't mind them too much, as long as they don't get in the way of his beachside yoga stretches or mess up his hair. He'll def tell them to shut the front door if they're coming into the house because they aren't air conditioning the whole neighborhood!

Jaskier will be out and about training his newly hatched Happiny, Idda, who is just a couple of years old. The Pokédex say that she doesn't have belly eggs yet but she still tries to imitate Chansey by grabbing white, round things to offer people...

So Idda is going to give the Snorunt snow balls while Jaskier watches from afar, humming a little tone and awwing at the cuteness.

Ardyn thinks these absolute godsdamned menaces are a delight, and will gladly encourage their mischief around Goldenrod by offering snacks. His own Snorunt and Zorua-illusioned-as-Snorunt will even run around with them a little, but the former’s painfully shy and the latter’s a troublemaker. Either way, go have fun and annoy people, kids.

It's not unusual for Pokemon to visit the little creek area of the gang's Olivine house.... but Dimitri promptly freezes when he sees that any amount of Snorunt have showed up. Flashbacks of having paint thrown on his Favorite Cloak, and being mistaken for an idol boy band group hit him like a Mew-infested truck.

Dimitri promptly leaves behind his Frosmoth to play Snorunt Host, and then runs throughout the house frantically returning every single fire-type Pokemon in the house to their Pokeball.

Gongenzaka is doing his best not to disrupt them, but soon enough he'll have a gaggle of Snorunts watching his winter training as if it is the most fascinating thing they've ever seen. They are even cheering. They are loving this.

As a result, Gongenzaka will be experiencing Great Luck during the coming month, in the form of finding a Multi-use TM of his choice out on the road. Did someone drop this? Was it a gift? We can only guess!

Doppio remembers last year. Oh, he Remembers, and he will not make the same mistake again. No trying to catch them this time! He'll just let them be while he gets acquainted with his new baby Heracross.

... Okay, he can share a little food too. But don't get greedy! His Morpeko's a hungry girl.

Playing with the Snorunt goes just fine until Romelle dares to, and we dare scarcely say the words... defeat them in a game of Hide and Seek.

Turns out these Snorunts are not good losers.

As a result, Romelle will be cursed with Terrible bad luck during the coming month, in the form of obtaining a personal nemesis. Her nemesis is a ten-year-old Youngster (why is he still wearing shorts in this weather?) who, for whatever reason, has decided that Romelle is a great evil that must be defeated. Wherever she goes, she'll be challenged to constant pokemon battles, followed and accused of the strangest crimes.

Last time Dirk interacted with one of these, tried to be nice, and as a result he broke his leg and was laid up for an entire month with a hairline fracture--the first time he's ever broken a bone, if he's to be believed on the subject.

This time, he's taking no chances, and when he finds one in his shower, he turns the hot water on it immediately.

Either he's going to get rid of it, or he's going to earn his calamitous outcome, thank you very much.

Unfortunately for Keith, the one Snorunt he tried to battle was rather busy doing something Very Important. Seriously, Keith. How dare you interrupt these important ongoings?

As a result, Keith will be cursed with Terrible Bad Luck during the coming month, in the form of his Pokemon deciding to just Not. Maybe it is the winter weather, maybe it's something in the air, but even Keith's most dedicated pokemon will loaf around and fall behind on their training. Watching the snow fall becomes more interesting than battling, sleep becomes a number one priority. They are perfectly fine and healthy, they just. Not today, Keith. Not today.

(Mechanically this will mean Keith will only be able to raise any pokemon's level by three during a given week, rather than the normal seven)

The Snorunts happily make Emporio's camp into their home, though they aren't too sure about this curry. It's rather hot and they can't really seem to make up their minds on whether they like it or not. Hmm. Just hmmmmm.

As a result, Emporio will be experiencing ??? Luck during the coming month. Wherever he goes shopping, he'll always be the 10,000th customer or somehow selected as a winner of contests he wasn't even aware he was entering, however, all the prizes he wins are just... terribly odd -- a hotdog costume that is three sizes too big, a Swanna ice sculpture that is just too big to carry (but that he won't be allowed to leave at the store), bags of candy corn (it isn't even close to Halloween??)

For the most part, Sandalphon would be rather intrigued by the Snorunt, if only because he’s not used to seeing Pokémon so happy in the cold. Even so, the angel would leave the Pokémon be, but would definitely be gifting the Snorunts with treats if it meant they hang around him a bit longer. Sandalphon’s Pokémon seem to enjoy the company as well.

He gives fair warning to the Snorunt, however: Don’t ruin the coffee time.

Allura is perfectly polite and friends and her Vulpix does create lots and lots of fun snow, but somehow the Snorunts just aren't convinced. They just don't know.

As a result, Allura will be experiencing ??? Luck during the coming month in the form of having both good luck and bad luck at the same time. For example, she might trip and land in a mud puddle, but then find a nice sum of money at the bottom of said puddle. If she uses a vending machine, the machine will never give her what she selected, but it will give her two completely different items. She might end up with branches horrible tangled in her hair, but doesn't that just create the perfect opportunity for a friendly travelling companion to help her out with her hair?

Is she lucky? Is she unlucky? We just can't tell.

Rainer throws a party for the batch of Snorunts hanging out in her area, by having her Rotom Buzz possess a boom box! She'll even offer them free wheelchair rides if they aren't too heavy!

Yuzu thinks the Snorunt are ADORABLE!! And a good distraction + reason to take a break from her current hard focus on coming up with different battle strategies with her team.

She’ll play some games with them… even try to make a snowman in their likeness if they’ll help out. She even has treats for them! Sure she’ll probably end up completely out out of treats with how many of these lil dudes there are, but they’re too adorable to say no to.

Zuke was in a glassblowing studio all day and came out with a basket of rainbow colored beads. He sat on a table with a mug of hot cocoa and a basket of homemade pumpkin curry buns. His team were munching on the bread and were being handed finished bracelets to try on, or keep.

When he saw the Snorunt, he remembered them. They were offered some buns and bracelets.
