Fairy Tale contest FAQ
An upcoming new contest means we will also need a new FAQ. Behold the curtain behind which we keep our FAQ answers, and wriggle your curious eyes and noses between its folds to gather everything you need to know to make this contest a success for you!
And if you see a man behind the curtain? Don't pay him any mind. We promise he is just there fixing a few things.
Let me guess, the theme for this contest is fairy tales?
It is indeed fairy tales! An astute observation that deserves a cookie. You should go and get yourself one. It's okay, we said you can have one.
But yes, this time, the contest will be themed around all manner of fairy tales. Of course, Riegfried and Soy do not wish to be culturally insensitive, so it's not just human fairy tales either. If your character comes from a different time or place or race that would have its own fairy tales, you are free to come up with one of those. Or you can simply pretend that Sleeping Beauty is the kind of story that gets told in all kinds of cultures.
However in addition to the theme, there is one tiny little twist...
A twist!!
A twist! Just like how grandmother turned out to be the wolf all along, there is one added challenge to this contest.
In addition to needing to fit the theme, every participant will need to include at least one Beauty move in their performance.
Wait, what is a beauty move, exactly?
In the pokemon games, contests are handled a little differently. We won't go into the details, but essentially, every pokemon move falls within a certain contest category -- Beauty, Cute, Cool, Tough, and Clever. For this contest, we are borrowing from the games a little, by taking their list of Beauty moves, which can be found here and asking that every contestant uses at least one of those moves in their entry.
There are 110 Beauty moves out there, so we are sure you'll find something that fits both your creative vision and your pokemon moveset.
How many pokemon may we use in our entries?
There will be a maximum of two pokemon, however we ask that only one pokemon takes the leading role -- that is to say, only this pokemon will be allowed to use moves on stage. The other pokemon may assist in other ways that don't involve using moves, but should be the supporting actor, so to speak.
Where will this contest be held?
Considering the beastly weather outside, Riegfried and Soy have opted to host this contest in their own mansion (the same that previously was the scene for Prom). No worries, all the damages have since been repaired and Riegfried and Soy are pretty certain none of their staff are disguised Team Rocket members this time!
What will the timeline be for this contest?
Good question!
ICly, the contest is taking place on Saturday the 26th.
OOCly, we will put up the IC log/submission post on Friday the 25th, with the deadline for entries being Sunday the 27th.
On Monday the 28th, we will put up a voting post, which will remain open until Friday the 4th.
On Saturday the 5th results will be posted. This should hopefully give everybody a chance to participate in the contest!
Are there going to be prizes? What can we win?
Prizes will be revealed when results come in, but rest assured that your characters can indeed win something.
How do contests work in VR?
Unlike the games, where there are various categories to participate in, in VR contests work by trying to match the provided theme (in this case Love and Romance) as best as possible.
Once all submissions have been gathered, we will set up a poll, and all players can vote for who they feel is the best in show. Voting will be done similar to Eurovision, in which you can give 12 points to your favourite entry, then 10 points to your second favourite, 9 points to third place, etc etc all the way down to 1 point. Points will be tallied and the person with the highest score wins.
In addition, there will be one secret voting category (which will not be revealed until voting commences). Obviously, the parameters for this category are going to be secret, but it could be something like asking you to choose the most humorous entry or the best use of music.
If it still isn’t clear yet, we encourage you to take a look at our contest tag and check out some of our previous contests.
I have other questions!
Please ask them down below and we’ll respond ASAP.
