Secret Santa Sign-up
Between Thursday December 1st and Sunday December 11th, your characters will be able to see them.
Who?
The Delibirds! They are dressed in cute little Santa outfits, made perfectly to size, little hats fitted snugly on top of their equally little heads. It's all very adorable. And also, they appear to be stalking your characters.
Thankfully, their motives aren't malicious (maybe). Instead, once they've finally cornered you, they'll present you with a slip that says:
'I, [NAME], will be someone's Secret Santa this year.'
Underneath this is a blank area. Are you meant to leave this pristine? Write down some likes and dislikes? Sign in blood? The Delibirds, if asked, will simply stare. I guess... you decide what to do with that?
Event FAQ
How exactly will this event work?
ICly, what happens is that between the first and the eleventh, your characters will be accosted by Delibirds, with a request to sign up for their Secret Santa. Once your character signs up, the Delibirds will disappear and leave them alone. If your character doesn't sign, the Delibirds will get more and more persistent as December 11th comes closer, trying their best to get you to sign their little card. If your character really doesn't want to join, however, they can keep refusing, and after the 11th, all the Delibirds will mysteriously disappear again.
If your character has signed up for this event, they will reappear on December the 23rd to collect all the gifts and make sure they'll end up with the right recipients on Christmas.
OOCLy, this post will serve as the sign-up post for the event. You enter your character, making sure to have an individual comment for each individual character (so, if you are entering two of your characters, you would need to comment twice). You'll be able to sign up until December 11th, 11:59PM EST.
Once we have all the sign-ups, we'll match up each character through various arcane magicks. You will receive a comment on your screened sign-up comment with the character that your character should shop for on December 12th.
To make sure there will be as many CR opportunities as possible, the character yours will buy a gift FOR will not necessarily be the same person they receive a gift FROM.
The gifts will be distributed by the Delibirds on the 25th. We'll put up an OOC gift exchange post around the 23rd where people can post all their IC gifts, but it's also fine to personally comment to another character's inbox. Whatever works best for you.
My character doesn't know what a Secret Santa is. Can they still participate?
Luckily, they can! There is a short explanation of what a secret Santa is all about on the back of the sign-up card, which the Delibirds will point out to characters.
Can newbies participate?
As long as they are apped in before December 11th, they certainly can! The Delibirds will be roaming for ten days, trying to find people that'll participate, so even if you aren't there on December first, they still can (and will!) find you!
So, how secret should this all be kept?
It honestly is up to you. We will keep the sign-up and name match-ups secret for all of those who really want to surprise folks, but you are free to discuss your results if you want.
ICly, characters can also discuss what and who they've gotten with other characters, with one major exception. If they try to reveal themselves to the person they've been matched up with, a Delibird will teleport in out of nowhere and slap them across the face.
The Delibirds are very serious about this.
E-exactly how serious are the Delibirds?
Very.
They don't like to take no for an answer, so if your character declines to sign their card, they will be very disappointed. They will try to convince your character to participate. This mostly involves doggedly pursuing the character with the card and trying to stare them into submission.
Please note that you can absolutely opt out of this event if you want! You don't have to participate, and eventually, if turned down often enough, the Delibirds will leave. But for all of those who have characters who might need… a little persuasion to sign up, please consider these birds very persuasive.
Is it possible for a friend/pokemon to sign up my character
Out of character, players can only sign up their own characters. However, if you want to participate, but your character isn't the sort to, you are absolutely free to have them be signed up by a friend or one of their pokemon in character. The delibirds just want as many people as possible to participate, so they will absolutely look the other way.
What about that blank area?
Essentially, feel free to do with that what you want. Would your character leave it blank? Write down some likes and dislikes? Leave a message (or demand?) to their Secret Santa? Draw that cool S we all drew in middle school? There are no wrong answers!
What if my character tries to fight/catch the Delibird?
The Delibirds will not engage in battle, and seem to have an uncanny ability to dodge attacks. The same goes for pokeballs. If your character does manage to corner them and use a pokeball on them, it will return an error, indicating this bird already belongs to someone.
Who do these Delibirds even belong to?
That is classified information.
