ROCKET PROM

HEY GUESS WHAT. GUESS WHAT IT’S TIME FOR.
DID YOU GUESS IT YET?
TOO LATE IT’S…

SO WHAT EXACTLY IS POKEMON PROM?
Pokemon Prom is a yearly event where everybody and their Pokemon get to go PARTY HARD in sweet sweet formalwear and generally have a good time. We’re talkin’ music, dancing, big ol’ buffet tables, all that good stuff. Usually there’s a few celebrity VIPs and more often than not, Dragonmaster Claire is trying to take all the credit for the festivities.

OH YEAH, I REMEMBER!! IT WAS ON THE MOON LAST YEAR RIGHT? SO IT MUST BE, LIKE, SOMEWHERE REALLY WILD THIS TIME!
Sadly, no! Arceus was the Most Excellent And Groovy Party Host for the moonprom, and he’s off sipping Pinap Coolatas on some beach in another dimension, aka way too busy to be chaperoning a bunch of Pokemon trainers. This year, the venue is back on solid ground at the Super Classy Elite Four Exclusive Vacation Retreat in Scenic Tohjo Falls, which veteran characters will recall as being the first and most frequent venue for Pokemon Prom.

TOHJO FALLS?! THAT’S A CLOSED AREA, HOW ARE WE GONNA GET THERE?!
Indeed it is! While the Elite Four don’t mind hosting events at their sweet vacay pad, they really would rather not have random travelers or paparazzi snooping around when they’re not home, so trainers do not usually have access to the Tohjo area.

Fortunately, your transportation needs are all taken care of! Included in the invitation will be instructions to utilize the handy dandy warp pads located in each Pokemon Center to make your way to New Bark or Pallet Town, where a special ferry will be waiting to take you to the estate!
Getting on the ferry will cost a small fee of P500.

WAIT A SEC… ISN’T THE TRANSPORTATION USUALLY FREE??
It’s certainly always been in the past, but if anyone asks the ferry staff, they’ll shrug and say it’s to cover costs and expenses. Weird! Although, to be fair, the grounds kind of were the site for that enormous Aqua vs. Magma showdown a couple years back. Maybe this is a longterm-damage fundraising attempt that they’re too embarrassed about to come right out and say it...

NO WAY, DUDE! MY CHARACTER’S TOO STINGY TO PAY FOR SOMETHING THAT SHOULD BE FREE! MAYBE THEY’D RATHER JUST STAY HOME FROM YOUR BOGUS PARTY.
That’s fair! Characters are not required to attend and will not be forced to. But… the invitation does mention the special unveiling of a surprise of enormous, ground-breaking, mega top-secret magnitude. Isn’t your character just a little curious to see what the Elite Four could be talking about?

WELL… MY CHARACTER’S NOT, BUT I AM! HOW DO I MOTIVATE MY STICK-IN-THE-MUD CHARACTER TO ATTEND?
Perhaps their friends or Pokemon can encourage them into it! This event isn't just for the trainers, after all — it's a get-together for your rosters, too! (Why should the humans be the only ones to have fun, right?) The mansion has plenty of room for Pokemon to spend time together, play, and interact! In fact, the invitation is particularly hyping up all the added fun games and activities that will be there for Pokemon to play with their friends, so if the social pressure to attend doesn’t get to them, maybe their Marill is already picking out accessories and they just can’t bear to break its heart.

WELL, I HATE PARTIES.
That’s okay! As we said, the event is entirely optional, and no one is obligated to come! Granted, characters who choose to stay behind will probably find that there’s not a whole lot going on in the interim, but hey, maybe that’s what they want. Either way, if you'd rather avoid this event altogether, you're perfectly welcome to!

YOU MENTIONED AN INVITATION-- WHAT’S THAT ALL ABOUT? DO OUR CHARACTERS HAVE TO RSVP?
No RSVP necessary! Starting April 1st, standard invitations delivered by Spearow will start making their way into player characters’ hands. They’re more or less just like the ones from previous proms (albeit without all the dumb moon-themed puns from last year’s), complete with the fancy official E4 seal and tantalizing photos of the resort’s many luxuries.

The body of the invite will cordially invite trainers and their finest Pokemon to attend this prestigious event ("Dress to impress, and bring your best!"), with not-so-subtle hints that Lance has something huge to announce, and that party-attendees get to be the first people to hear it (so don’t miss out!).

I’M NEWER TO THE GAME AND HAVE NEVER ATTENDED A PROM AT THE TOHJO RESORT BEFORE! WHAT’S IT LIKE?! TELL ME EVERYTHING!!
Whoa, slow down, tiger! Don’t worry, this post should have just about everything you need to know about what your character will be seeing and doing during the event! And if you’ve still got questions, feel free to ask them down in the comments! But if you’re curious about the resort and prom events in general, check out the first and second Pokemon Prom posts from years past!

WOW, PREVIOUS PROMS ONLY LASTED FOR A FEW DAYS-- THIS ONE’S ALMOST A WEEK!! WHAT GIVES?
Oooooh… very mysterious… Must have something to do with those big announcements Lance is gonna be making!

SO WHAT DOES THIS PLACE LOOK LIKE, AND WHAT CAN I FIND THERE?
Well, for starters, it looks like this:

KEY:
BLUE areas are where the bulk of the party's events will be located! As you can see, the festivities will be taking place largely outdoors. Some of the landscaping is a little different than what longterm residents might remember-- again, this WAS the site of a pretty epic battle between Teams Aqua and Magma at one point! All the same, in two years, you’d think they’d have wrapped up most of the work… there’s a lot of large-ish dirt piles and general disarray, although the main grounds are still tidied up and decked out pretty heavily for the garden party. There’s also an indoor ballroom for the more fancy red-carpet dancing, but in general, most of the activity will be happening outside.

GREEN areas are where guests will be staying overnight! Unfortunately, you'll be sleeping-bagging it up, since there's a limited number of bedrooms in this house and they all either belong to Claire, the rest of the Elite Four, or are reserved for guests who are regrettably way more important than you. That much is the same as always-- Bruno really doesn’t want anybody digging through his underwear drawer, guys. He never has.
All that said, the green areas are where you'll be given space to leave your possessions, claim some sleeping room, and generally crash for the night once the festivities do you in.

RED areas are RESOUNDINGLY off-limits to guests! There’s a lot more blocked-off doorways than there were in the past, and if asked about them, the staff will inform you that the mansion is under heavy remodeling and to please move along! What do you want to look at a bunch of sawdust and exposed wiring for anyway! Stop being nosy!
For everybody’s safety, there will be some staff stationed near the various restricted areas to move people along and make sure nobody wanders where they shouldn’t.

AREA A is the designated Indoor Ballroom area, for the people who prefer the classy elegance of a formal red-carpet gala over the more whimsy outdoor garden party atmosphere in the back. There's a big skylight and lots of space to move around! … But the hardwood floors are looking a little scuffed, and there doesn’t seem to be the usual array of tasteful artwork on the walls anymore, even though you can still tell where a lot of the frames used to be hanging. Overall, though, a little more upscale than the shenanigans going on outside, for the people who'd rather that kind of thing.

AREA B, as some of the more bookish types will remember, is the Library/Gallery! A long-time favorite of visitors, it’s usually a nice haven for people who are a little partied-out but not ready for bed, or who just want to dig into the Elite Four’s personal collection of books and research. SADLY, this year it would seem the door is blocked off! Remodeling in there too, huh? What a shame. :(

AREA C is...well, the Parking Lot. Normally it’s spotless (no cars!), but this year it looks like they didn’t really have time to clean up, as there seems to be a lot of litter lying around. But more importantly, this is where you take your Pokemon battles if you simply gotta get your battle on; keep it out and away from the house, please, and try not to make too much of a mess. Skirmishes, sorties, and sparring will be tolerated here and here alone. Don’t be that person, guys!

AREA D … is the Elite Four’s trophy and commemoration room, and it too seems to be shut off to the public. :( Awwww.
WHAT OTHER EVENT DETAILS DO I NEED TO KNOW?
• This is a red-carpet event! That means a formal dress code is going to be enforced; you don't have to be haute couture levels of fancy, but you can't show up in jeans and a polo, either. (Let us all never forget how brave Morty spent the entirety of the first prom in the parking lot because he wore socks with sandals and got kicked out by Clair.)

Naturally, you should bring some comfortable, more casual clothes — it's a multi-day event, after all — but if you don't have something formal to wear to the main event, you sure will look out of place! Ugh, why would you even come? Get out, peasants! Don’t come back without a sweet suit!

• Yes, that is actually a pool in the backyard. You're welcome to go swimming if you like, though we recommend not doing it in your red-carpet attire. Bring a swimsuit. … Or… maybe don’t. The pool looks kind of grimy. :/

• Refreshments suitable for both humans and Pokemon will be available!. Drinks are mostly punch and soft drinks, but there IS an alcohol menu! It’s super expensive, but still! Nice!. On the other hand, the food is…. Eh. It’s okay, but…eh.

• The music… okay, actually, the music is freaking lit. Like, way more lit than it used to be. Rock, electro-pop, and the sickest beats from famous rapper and dubstepper Tuff Wiggly are just a few of the tunes partygoers can expect out on the dancefloor. Feel free to make requests of the DJ; if you're lucky you might even be able to persuade her to open up the microphones for some impromptu karaoke.

• Yes, you may spike the punch bowl. One of them. Ya rascals.
THERE’S WILD POKEMON AROUND THE GROUNDS TO CATCH, RIGHT?
Well, there’s certainly a lot of fascinating wildlife native to this area, and there’s definitely been Pokemon around to catch in the past! But, uh… they seem to have skedaddled right on out of here. Gotten the hell out of dodge. Made like a Nanab berry and split. … There don’t seem to be any wild Pokemon around this year, is what we’re saying.

There’s a few decorative Goldeens in the garden ponds and fountains, but… that seems to be it.
What a bummer...

WHAT ABOUT ALL THAT GREAT STUFF WE USUALLY GET TO LOOK AT IN THE E4’S PRIVATE COLLECTIONS?? THE BOOKS, THE ARTICLES, THE FOSSILS?? THAT’S ALL STILL THERE, RIGHT? RIGHT??
Well, I mean, presumably!
But the Library and Trophy Rooms are off-limits! Do you really need to go see all that dusty old stuff? Did you come here to party or not?

THIS IS TOTAL BS! YOU’RE NOT THE BOSS OF ME! I’M GONNA BREAK INTO THE RESTRICTED ROOMS AND YOU CAN’T STOP ME!
... Well, it’s true, there’s not always gonna be staff lingering around the doorways… Maybe if one takes a cigarette break, or gets distracted...

OKAY, OKAY. CAN WE AT LEAST MINGLE WITH SOME GYM LEADERS AND STUFF?
You know, they don’t seem to be around. While there were definitely VIPs mentioned in the invitation, weirdly enough, there’s mostly just staff and, well, y’all! Maybe they’re gonna pop up for the big finale.

AND THE BIG SECRET THING LANCE IS GONNA SHOW US…?
... :)

IMPORTANT PLOT INFORMATION FOR THIS YEAR'S PROM

OKAY GUYS... THIS IS ACTUALLY LOOKING PRETTY SUSPICIOUS. WHAT’S THE CATCH?
What? Are you freaking serious right now?? The Elite Four invites you into their home and THIS is the thanks they get? Unbelievable. We can’t believe you’d be so presumptuouHAHA JUST KIDDING GUESS WHAT

I DID NOT SEE THAT COMING.
I know, right?

SO WHAT’S TEAM ROCKET DOING THROWING A FANCY PARTY AT THE ELITE FOUR’S HOUSE?
Well, they did tell everyone to bring their best Pokemon for a reason. They’re hoping that if they can ambush everyone while they’re worn out from a night of fun and dancing, it’ll be a whole lot easier to take all these trainers out and steal all their super-rare companions! This party’s been a completely legitimate event for years, so who would suspect a thing before it was too late? And there’s just so much loot to be had in the mansion itself...that library and that trophy room sure had a lot of nice things in them.

WHAT ABOUT THE ELITE FOUR? AREN’T THE ROCKETS WORRIED ABOUT THEM MAYBE NOTICING THIS GOING ON AT THEIR RESORT HOME?
...say, has anybody heard from the Elite Four in the past few weeks? I mean, there haven’t been any new challengers for them to fight, and sometimes they’ll go on sabbaticals...

That was what happened, wasn’t it?

SO WHAT’S GOING TO GO DOWN AT THIS AMBUSH?
At around 10 PM Saturday night, just when things are starting to wind down, the Rockets are going to make their move.

A mysterious force field will spring up around the mansion grounds, preventing partygoers from leaving, and Team Rocket will unveil themselves in a most grandiose fashion. PREPARE FOR TROUBLE!

WHAT WILL ROCKET CHARACTERS BE EXPECTED TO DO DURING THIS EVENT?
Rocket characters will have been filled in on the whole scheme (or well, at least the Pokemon-stealing part of it) well in advance, and are expected to aid their team however they can. For the most part, this means keeping quiet-- the repercussions for tipping anyone off will be severe, and while it’ll be hard to keep track of who’s doing what in the inevitable chaos, they will be generally expected to join in the battle once the jig is up. Other than that, the best thing they can do is mingle and act like everything’s perfectly normal!

MY CHARACTER’S BEEN HIDING THEIR INVOLVEMENT WITH TEAM ROCKET THUS FAR-- WILL THE PARTICIPATING ROCKETS BE FORCED TO OUT THEMSELVES FOR THIS EVENT?
Not unless you want them to be! We don’t want to force any Rocket characters to have a big reveal that they don’t want, so it’s completely acceptable to say that they had their faces hidden or that they just plain avoided running into anyone who would recognize them in all the confusion. At the end of the event, they are free to shed their uniforms and pretend to have been innocent partygoers all along. Or, you know, if you WANT them to get caught, we can certainly make that happen, although there might be some nasty consequences… :)

WHAT IF I WANT TO GO TO PROM, BUT DON’T WANT TO BE IN THE ROCKET EVENT? OR VICE VERSA?
You can say that your character managed to be outside of the force field when it goes up! Jennies will be arriving on the scene before too long, not that they’ll be able to do anything for the characters trapped inside. But they will be able to arrange for transport back to New Bark or Pallet Town for those outside the field. Unfortunately, if your character does not attend prom, they will not be able to participate in the Rocket event. Participating will be made worth your while, though, because while the entire game WILL receive fabulous prizes if participants pull off a win, those who actually do participate will get additional, VERY SPECIAL prizes.

HOW IS THIS GOING TO WORK OOC-LY?
Like other events in the game’s history, this event is going to have several win conditions. One for the main battle with the Rockets, and one for whatever happens afterwards. Because of this, we are going to need everyone who wants to participate in this plot aspect of Prom to sign up in the sign up area below!

The Rocket Battle win condition is going to be based on the number of players who tag in, either with a top-level or with a response to someone else’s thread. The tag can be anything, not necessarily your character battling (they could be hiding, running away, throwing a shoe at a Grunt’s head, shrugging and taking advantage of the chaos to hog all the guacamole, or anything you feel would be IC), so long as it gets made within the timeframe and checked in. If at least two thirds of the signed up characters make at least one tag, it will count as a win. Please only sign up if you think you will be able to tag in!

The second part of the plot is going to involve characters exploring a base (details on that will be posted when it happens, as it is dependent on the outcome of the battle), and that win condition will centered around clearing obstacles based on a number of comments. If the Rocket Battle is won, the conditions to win will be lowered for this part. Both the battle and the exploration will each have their own logs!

IC ITINERARY
Friday, April 7th: Characters will take the ferry and arrive at the mansion in the evening, just in time to get some shut-eye in those garages. The house and yard itself will be closed off at this time, and wandering around the grounds in the dark will be discouraged.

Saturday, April 8th: PROM TIME. Characters will be provided breakfast and lunch, and by four o’clock it’ll be time to be let into the house and get partying! At 10, the Rockets will attack and hopefully be defeated.

Sunday through end: GOOD LUCK GUYS AT LEAST THERE’S FOOD AND WATER AND BATHROOMS. Regardless of when/if the win conditions are met OOC-ly, characters will IC-ly be trapped until the final day of the plot, one way or another.

OOC ITINERARY
Friday, April 7th: The Prom Log will be posted a day early to give you all some time to enjoy threading out the party!

Saturday, April 8th: The Rocket Log will be posted at 12 AM EST

Sunday, April 9th: The Rocket Battle win condition must be met by 10 PM EST. Feel free to continue tagging in this log as long as you like, but the check in will be closed.

Monday, April 10th to end: The Base Exploration Log will be posted, and obstacles will be cleared one by one. Details on this segment will be posted when the log goes up.

I STILL HAVE QUESTIONS!
We still have answers! Ask us here.

So..... the Indigo League gym leaders will be mysteriously absent, but would Aurora League gym leaders have heard anything? THAT IS, with the Indigo League peoples being ~mysteriously absent~ would Aurora gym leaders be possibly targeted or avoided or whatever the case is as well in some manner? Or is Team Rocket not really keeping up with this whole new gym thing?

Well I mean they do have some powerful and relatively rare pokemon but.... Well let's just say Sion's a dick and sees no reason not to give his top team members special training precisely for situations like this. :)

Neither of them is inclined to advertise their status though (unless it's necessary/clearly advantageous strategically to do so) so unless they get recognized/pointed out by someone. With that said though we ARE open to plotting if any rockets (player or NPC) want to blow their cover!

What can Rockets do in regards to the 'explore the secret base' section of the event? I mean...they'd know everything in there but in the interest of game balance and all that jazz, I'm imagining that since the battle's been lost, they're simply retreating and leaving the other players to it?

SO THIS DIVIDING WALL if it's as crappy and hastily built as described, is there anything stopping a pokemon from just... cutting/punching/blasting a hole in it? Aside from concerns about leaving what's on the other side intact, that is....
dreamsofahero: (Default)

[personal profile] dreamsofahero 2017-04-11 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
So the wall isn't a material that could be affected by cutting/slashing attacks? MOSTLY since Sion ended up bringing not just his absol but the gallade as well, that'll be the first option he'd think of! (since the sounds from the other side mean blasting a beam-attack hole is probably unadvisable...)

okay so ANOTHER QUESTION that came up while discussing plot-thing with Ryner's player, so Sion and Ryner both fight dirty when it comes to Rockets and that includes things like being perfectly willing to give a punch to the stomach or knee to the crotch of said rocket. If they manage to subdue/knock any out like this, can they like... strip their shirts off to impromptu tie 'em up to be interrogated and/or turned over to the police later? Because that is a thing they would try to do given the chance.... I'm sorry your newest gym leaders are terrible people

POST EVENT QUESTION

[personal profile] 11121_assumption 2017-04-15 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
It's just struck me, given there's Rocket reviews here!!

Should Rocket plays report on what they've done? As in, link to things their characters did, detail if it was in the open/subdued and so on? It seems unfair to expect you guys to comb over the threads to find all Rocket activity and I'm sure everyone wants their Rockets to shine....or to go to the ball pit. One or the other!
