Prom: McMansion edition, coming to a game near you soon!
HEY GUESS WHAT TIME OF YEAR IT IS.
THAT’S RIGHT IT’S APRIL, WHICH MEANS IT’S TIME FOR...

THE BASICS
SO WHAT EXACTLY IS POKEMON PROM?
Pokemon Prom is a yearly event where everybody and their Pokemon get to go PARTY HARD in sweet sweet formalwear and generally have a good time. We’re talkin’ music, dancing, big ol’ buffet tables, all that good stuff.
SO WHAT’S THIS YEAR’S SWANKY VENUE GOING TO BE?
Prom is one of those things you only experience once -- if you are a prom host, that is. The last few years, prom has had a tendency to, ah, go slightly off the rails, and while that has never been because of the Otherworlders (honestly, they’ve mostly ended up cleaning up everybody else’s messes!), it does understandably leave people wary.
Lance was almost looking at renting out a Ninja Nicky’s, to be honest.
But thankfully, a new pair of hosts has stepped up to the plate. And what is more, you already know them!
Yes, It’s true! Prom 2021 is in the very experienced (and well-manicured) hands of contest organisers Riegfried and Soy! After having organised a few contests for the Otherworlders, how hard could one fancy dress party be?
THINGS ARE GOING TO GO WRONG, AREN’T THEY?
We have no idea what could have possibly given you that idea.
SO, TELL US ABOUT THIS YEAR’S PROM.
In the coming days, characters will be receiving pokemon-delivered invitations to join Messrs Riegfried and Soy to celebrate prom.
The location for this year’s prom will be their manor house, located near Route 48 in Johto. Those of you who participated in their most recent cooking contest may already be familiar with this place, though this time, you’ll be getting to see much more than just the fancy kitchen!
For three days and nights, Riegfried and Soy’s mansion-like home will be the lap of luxury in which you may stretch out and relax. For a few days, you can live like Johto’s 1% does, while of course also enjoying one heck of a fancy party. And the invitation hints that this year, there might be more than just a fancy dress party to participate in!
So, come one, come all. Pack your fanciest suit and/or dress and your dancing shoes and come join us for
MANSION PROM 2021

MY CHARACTER’S REALLY NOT INTERESTED IN PARTIES, BUT I AM! HOW DO I MOTIVATE MY STICK-IN-THE-MUD CHARACTER TO ATTEND?
Like every year, prom is more than just a fancy dress party. It is three days, after all! Nobody can dance and drink for three days.
While we cannot reveal everything yet, we can say various activities will be available in and around the mansion that could pique a character’s interest. And for those that require some peace and alone-time, there will be plenty of opportunities for that as well. Or perhaps the strong hint in the invitation that there will be more than just a ball will do the trick? If nothing else, maybe they can be lured in by the knowledge that Prom has an incredibly high rate of going absolutely wrong.
And if none of this works, perhaps your character’s friends can be counted on to drag them to prom. Maybe even their pokemon if you want to play it that way.
WELL, I HATE PARTIES AND PARTY EVENTS.
That’s okay! As we said, the event is entirely optional, and no one is obligated to come! Granted, characters who choose to stay behind will probably find that there’s not a whole lot going on in the interim, but hey, peace and quiet! Either way, if you'd rather avoid this event altogether, you're perfectly welcome to!
I’M NEWER TO THE GAME AND HAVE NEVER ATTENDED A PROM BEFORE! WHAT’S IT LIKE?
It’s a big party event serving as an excuse for characters to all get together in the same place, with the bonus of picking out fun outfits. The log will have a detailed description of the mansion and its amenities when it goes up, as well as Riegfried and Soy’s mystery surprise, which will also be linked here when it’s ready.
If you’re curious about prom events in general, check out some of our previous Pokemon Prom posts!
MY CHARACTER WANTS TO GO BUT HOW WILL THEY GET THERE?
Transport will be arranged for every individual who wants to attend. No matter how far away they might be, Riegfried and Soy will find a way to get them there!
I HAVE SOME OTHER PROM QUESTION.
That’s what this post is for! Let us know down below, and we’ll try and answer you as much as we can, keeping in mind that some things are still going to be hush-hush until the actual log goes up on the 16th.
CONTEST FAQ
CONTEST! CONTEST!
Indeed! Only the first of many (okay, like two) of Riegfried and Soy's surprises for this year's prom.
HOW WILL THIS CONTEST BE RUN?
As Soy announced, this contest's theme will be Glamour and fashion, which means the focus will be on your character and their pokemon's looks! Think of this contest as a high-end fashion show with you and your pokemon showing off your own creations. Which means that, yes, there will be a catwalk.
OOCly, you'll see that we've already opened up contest submissions on the main Prom post. While we'd like to give people all the time in the world to submit their ideas, we've got several things planned for this year's prom, which will be revealed to you in stages, so we do have to adhere to some deadline here. We've decided to make the deadline for contest submissions Tuesday the 20th, after which we'll work on getting up the voting post.
ICly, Soy's announcement for the contest was on Friday. The actual contest will be held on Sunday morning, but in a very dramatic fashion, the winner will not be announced until that evening during the dance. Unless something goes wrong, but that never happens during prom.
CAN WE GET A BIT MORE INFO ON THE THEME?
Certainly.
As mentioned, the theme is Fashion and Glamour, which means the main focus of this contest will be on what your character and their pokemon are wearing rather than what they are doing. Riegfried and Soy have given you free rein of their old clothing closets, as well as their personal sewing atelier which means that your character is free to create their outfit and that of their pokemon by combining and altering things found in here. And please assume that you can find anything in here. Riegfried and Soy have a very elaborate and out-there fashion sense, and their collection also includes many previous costumes worn by them and any assistants on their show, so anything can be in there -- dresses, hats, pants, shirts, you name it and they have it in many, many colours.
In your contest submission, you are free to describe your character's entry in any way you wish, whether by writing a description of your character's outfit, finding a picture of what you are imagining your character will be wearing, drawing something.
Of course, as always there are going to be some stipulations.
WILL THERE BE PRIZES?
Yes, there will be prizes for the winners, but these will be revealed when we reveal the winners.
MYSTERY SIGN-UP
This prom is going to involve several 'stages', which will get posted as time progresses. For one of these stages, we are going to require some volunteers. Unfortunately, in order to keep things a surprise, we cannot reveal too much about what is happening just yet. What we can guarantee is that there will be no long-term consequences for signing up, nor will your character be losing any pokemon or blood. Signing up will require some activity on your end, so please do think about that when you sign up.
We have set up a sign-up post here. The comments of this sign-up post will be screened, so nobody will know who has and hasn't signed up.
On Monday we will go through the sign-ups and choose a number of characters to participate in this part of the plot who we will then approach with more information. You will still have a chance of declining once we have approached you, though obviously, we will ask that nothing gets revealed to the game at large.
MASQUERADE
!!
Welcome! You've unlocked the second of Riegfried and Soy's surprises which is... a Masquerade. Fancy dances are fun and all, but those are pretty standard for prom. And Riegfried and Soy never do just standard.
BUT WHAT IS THE POINT TO HAVING MASKS WHEN WE ALL KNOW EACH OTHER?
Ah, but this isn't your regular garden-variety masquerade. With Emet-Selch's help, Riegfried and Soy have gone out of their way to provide you with an experience like never before.
You see, the masks are magic.
MAGIC?
Okay, maybe not exactly magic.
In reality, each mask has been imbued with the illusionary energy of psychic pokemon. A very complicated process, the details of which are really a bit too dull for an evening of dancing. The importance is in the effect of the masks which is that the moment you put on the mask you will be unable to recognise anyone.
To expand on this -- while wearing the mask, your character will be able to see and hear things as normal. However, the illusionary spells will prevent them from connecting what they see with what they know. Characters will be able to fully see someone's appearance, they just won't be able to connect this with someone's identity.
SO NOBODY WILL KNOW ANYONE?
Well, not based on visual or auditory cues.
The illusionary magic has its limits, however, in this case, being that it won't prevent you from making a connection based on knowledge and/or memory.
Essentially, the masks will function as an 'anon mode' in a chat program. They take away the visual and audio cues that you might normally recognise a person by, but if someone using anon mode talks about a memory you two both share, you are still going to be able to recognise them, even if you can't use their user-picture or screen name to do it by!
Or, as an example.
If Riegfried and Soy are both wearing the masks, they could be dancing together without ever recognising the other. However, if they sit down and start talking about their wedding, they would immediately realise who is who!
THAT SOUNDS REALLY COMPLICATED.
It kind of is, but Riegfried and Soy wanted to badly to make this prom special, and they are both hopeless romantics, so the idea of people making a connection based on their souls rather than their eyes very much appealed to them.
WHAT WILL THE MASKS LOOK LIKE?
The masks will be lightweight and golden. They somewhat resemble the masks held by the pokemon Yamask, however, they will only cover the upper part of the face, so people are able to eat and drink. Each mask is fixed in place with ribbons behind the head. The ribbons come in various colours, though characters will not be able to choose which colour they receive.
All masks are identical apart from the different coloured ribbons.
MY CHARACTER DOESN'T WANT TO WEAR A MASK.
Unfortunately, this will not be optional. You can't be part of a masquerade and not wear a mask. It goes against its very nature.
THEN MY CHARACTER WON'T ATTEND.
Riegfried and Soy would try their best to convince your character to do so anyway, but they accept that they cannot force them.
CAN MY CHARACTER REMOVE THE MASK ONCE INSIDE?
Unfortunately, it seems like the ribbons tying the mask in place are incredibly hard to undo. Weird.
WHAT PREVENTS MY CHARACTER FROM JUST ANNOUNCING THEIR NAME WHILE WEARING THE MASK?
Nothing, but you sure aren't a very romantic person, are you?
THIS SMELLS SUSPICIOUS.
No, no. That is the smell of ~*~romance~*~.
YAMASQUERADE
OH NO. PROM WENT WRONG.
Shocked Pikachu face.
WHICH DASTARDLY FIENDS ARE BEHIND THIS?
The OG Dastardly Fiends, the one and only Team Rocket.
After making an attempt to derail prom several years ago, Team Rocket is back (back again) with a new plan. You see, Riegfried and Soy are fabulously wealthy and frankly, all those valuable objects would look so much better brightening up the Team Rocket headquarters. And while prom gave them a unique chance of getting inside the mansion by posing as servers, cooks and bartenders, the presence of all the Otherworlders also means there is a hefty security force to deal with.
So, a rather clever and very handsome Rocket suggested, why not have them deal with each other?
This year, Team Rocket has brought specially trained Yamask, which have possessed several Otherworlders. And under the influence of these Yamask, these individuals are going to cause as much chaos and havoc as possible to keep everybody inside the ballroom occupied while Team Rocket tries to cart everything of value out of the mansion.
ARE OUR FRIENDS IN DANGER?
The Yamask possessing them are not necessarily aiming to hurt them, just to use them to cause A Lot of Chaos.
Still, being possessed isn't all that grand, so you should probably do something about that!
HOW CAN WE GET RID OF THE YAMASK?
To break the possession, the mask covering the character's face will need to be removed. This can either be done by force or by getting the characters to mentally reject the mask. Time to plot with the people involved to see how they want to handle this!
SHOULD WE BE WORRIED ABOUT RIEGFRIED AND SOY?
The moment she noticed that something was Up, Riegfried and Soy much beleaguered shiny Incineroar Madeline put herself between them and the chaos, making sure her owners will be fine. So don't worry about them! Focus on everything else!
MY CHARACTER WAS NOT INSIDE THE BALLROOM, WHAT CAN THEY DO?
Two things -- Either they can work on breaking into the ballroom to help out there or they can try and deal with the various Rocket members currently going through the mansion, trying to steal everything that is worth anything (which is basically everything).
MY CHARACTER IS A ROCKET. ANYTHING I SHOULD KNOW?
Generally speaking, player Rockets would've been appraised that something would be going down during prom and to be ready, but if they were not directly involved with the plot, they most likely would not have been given all the details. Less chance of something being leaked that way.
When everything starts going down, Rocket characters will have the option of either doing nothing (and maintaining their cover), adding to the chaos (if they can find a way of doing it subtly) or, if they were outside of the ballroom, stealing everything that isn't nailed down and perhaps deal with the Otherworlders that were not inside.
Just make sure to wear a mask, okay!
DO WE NEED TO DO ANYTHING IN PARTICULAR TO UNLOCK THE PROM GOOD ENDING?
As long as every possessed individual gets tagged by at least one individual, you'll win prom.
DO WE GET PRIZES?
Lets talk about that after Riegfried and Soy have assessed how much Team Rocket stole.
BUT WHAT ABOUT THE CONTEST WINNER?
Yes, about that -- while we said we'd be announcing the winner this was, in fact, a lie. After all, how can we know who has won when we have not yet had a vote?
Because of course, we are going to let all of you guys have input on who gets to be crowned the winner. Like with our other contests, we've put up a poll here that you can fill out.
Like always, our poll will be done Eurovision style, meaning you will be asked to reward 12 points to the best contestant in your eyes, ten points to the runner up, nine points to third place and so on all the way down to one point. Contestants were asked to somehow match their assigned room with their outfit, so keep that in mind when voting.
Ordinarily, we would also have a secret category, but because we have enough to be getting on with, this contest will only focus on the overall theme.
The vote will open today and the deadline is Sunday, the 25th. On Monday we plan to reveal who has actually won and which prize they will receive.
IF PROM KEEPS GOING WRONG WHY DOES LANCE KEEP ORGANISING IT?
If teachers kept dying, why didn't Dumbledore cancel Defence Against The Dark Arts class?
Please note that the mod top-level should only be replied to by the eight people who are getting possessed. This is to make them easy to find and distinguishable for everybody else.
If you'd like to post your characters' (re)actions related to this part of Prom, please create a regular top-level under the post as a whole.

Of course, as always there are going to be some stipulations.
(1) Your entry must include one character and one pokemon. It will not be possible to combine entries or use multiple pokemon.
(2) The pokemon included in your contest entry must fit on a catwalk. They don't necessarily need to walk. They can be carried or fly/float down the catwalk, but size-wise there is only so much room. We all love your Onix, but they are not going to be the best pokemon to star in this contest. To give you some idea, everything up to the size of a large human would be fine.
(3) Your contest entry may include 1 pokemon move to emphasize your work down the catwalk. This will be optional for this contest.
(4) The theme will be Fashion and Glamour but in order to help with the eventual voting, we've added the stipulation that your character's contest entry must in some way match their assigned bedroom. This is still a pretty broad interpretation! You could meet this by matching the general colour of your bedroom, or perhaps by meeting the theme of the room.
(4b) This means that in order to enter in this contest, you must sign up for the bedroom assignments. If you haven't yet but still want to get involved in the contest, please do so ASAP and we will find somewhere extravagant if not possibly slightly cursed for your character to sleep (also ASAP).

Additionally, some Rocket grunts who participated in Christmas might recall a tall viking man in Actual Armor throwing rats at them and knocking some folks out.
So.
1. How many Rocket Grunts will recall this and try to run away?
2. How many Grunts can Dimitri knock out while fueled by feral panic because his boyfriends and pseudo-kids are in there?
3. How many Grunts can Dimitri tie up, gag, and lock in a closet for later dealing with? As in, they'll be forced to stay put and not promptly rescued.
4. What could Dimitri get these Rockets to spill while interrogating them? Part of it will be a tall, muscular, one eyed angry feral viking man just looming over them demanding answers. Part of it will be using cruel and unusual methods....
...such as Cofgodas the Raticate slowly eating their hair on one side, guaranteed to make them have a terrible hair cut, while Hob the Raticate while loudly and sloppily eats food in a way that everyone hates right next to the Rocket's ear.
Alternatively, psychic types Silkie the Indeedee and Kent the Munna are here to get answers in a much more cheating fashion. (Especially Kent, who is used to diving into Dimitri's much more messy head for sleep aid reasons.)
Dimitri is looking for mainly:
* who is behind this
* where are you meeting up post-robbery
* what is happening inside
* any juicy Rocket info
but if the sound of Hob's terrible eating makes them confess to their preferred boxer patterns or spilling the hot goss on a shitty coworker, that's fine too
5. Dimitri is 100% stealing whatever Pokemon he can from Rockets because Heck with those people. How many, and should I just assume, if successful, to choose from the list of generic Rocket starters?
no subject
2 & 3. Giving an exact number is pretty tough. It would depend on if he has any back-up or not, and if he is trying to take on the whole mob or assassins creed style sneaking up on singular grunts. Feel free to note that he did get a few but this would not be a huge number.
4. Not all that much, honestly.
They'd say that obviously, it's Team Rocket behind it. They are trying to get money. There will be a pick-up outside the mansion (but they don't know where it will go from there) and that the people on the inside are gonna be fighting each other. That is all they know. They are not the masterminds of this set-up, just the grunts.
5. Let's say, anything up to three. And choosing from the generic Rocket starters list is good.
no subject
This is additional flavor text, but any Rocket who has a run in with Dimitri will find themselves ending the encounter with Silkie the Indeedee smiling and using a permanent marker to write on their face. As a psychic type, she will be Extra Mean and pinpoint each attempt to the individual's weakpoints.
Anyway, to finish this up: Dimitri will remember this, and start going after Rockets post-prom. It's not really a plot, exactly, so should I just leave that for the mod contact page or in a PM to the account later on once Prom has settled? It would mostly be just for hashing out details on Dimitri going vigilante against Rocket grunt NPCs, etc. Just wanna make sure I put it in the right place later.

there are totally going to be Rockets getting knees in their groins, let's just saySo! If they cross paths/see someone else trying to take down Rockets they'll absolutely help!So in other words, you can probably safely assume he'll have at least some good backup, and feel free to poke either/both of us if you want to plot anything in particular!
no subject
I'll probably be attaching prompts for this sort of stuff to Dimitri's top level tomorrow, so you can check that out then to see if anything hits your eye! If not, let me know and we can work out further shenanigans.
no subject
ALSO I forgot to mention, if Dimitri's planning on going vigilante, he might want to talk to Sion. Because while Sion never got the chance to do much prior to becoming a gym leader thanks to team rocket laying low for a while there, he most definitely had very solid plans to and is certainly willing to give a few suggestions to anyone he feels he can trust with that kind of information...
