Return of the Snorunt Fortunes

There exists an old superstition that Snorunts bring luck and good fortune to those that treasure them. 'Look into a rich man's past, and you will find a Snorunt there' is something you might hear from older relatives to explain why some of us enjoy more fortune than others.

Well. It turns out those old people are right. Up to a point, at least.

Whether they actually bring good or bad luck themselves or if there is some luck-giving entity that is just very concerned with Snorunt Treatment is something that can be discussed at length, but the fact remains that how you treat a Snorunt can definitely affect your luck in life. And today, characters get to experience that for themselves.

Today, wherever your character may roam, they'll find Snorunts there. Even if they just stay at home, they might find their garden teeming with Snorunts or that the little creatures have somehow managed to get into their kitchen and have turned their fridge into a nice little hang-out. It's almost like a normal swarm, and it is possible for characters to catch the Snorunts if they want, however, unlike a normal swarm, the way your character interacts with the Snorunts will affect their luck for the duration of a month (from the fifth of January to the fifth of February).

Comment on this post with your character, and how they might be dealing with the Snorunts swarming everywhere. Are they ignoring them? Trying to catch them? Will they play with them, and if a Snorunt tries to get into their home, how will they react? Don't worry, we are not looking for an essay, just a line or two is enough.

Based on that, your character will receive one of five fortunes for the coming month. These range from Great Luck, Just a bit Lucky, ??? Luck, Just a bit unlucky, to Great Misfortune and can affect anything from making your character particularly vulnerable to tiny little mishaps or fortunes to actually affecting things like the likeliness of them encountering/breeding a shiny pokemon or how many levels their pokemon can gain.

Mind you though, that these Snorunt are rather unpredictable. What could lead to a great fortune from one Snorunt could be taken as a complete insult by another Snorunt. Like someone once said, life is like a completely randomly decided fortune by some website generator; you never know what you are going to get!

Oh, and as always, this event is entirely optional!

Not that having two eyes would have given him any more capacity to be everywhere at once, but Geddoe may wish for that anyway, as he is struck with some very bad luck this month.

Specifically, tinnitus. On top of the background music, Geddoe now has the additional burden of a constant, buzzing ring in his ear. Hopefully he wasn't hoping to get much sleep... and he might want to get used to saying "huh?" and "what?" and "say that again?"

Erina is doing some housekeeping, and sees them in the fields. Thinking they're one of her pokemon (sometimes breeding becomes a bit wacky), she invites them in and gives them a warm bit of food to eat and a place to stay. But then she goes back to her housekeeping.

The Snorunts are happy to listen to Elidibus' playing, though they get rather demanding about what he should play next. Unfortunately, being pokemon and unable to speak, it's not like they can really voice their wishes all too well, which leads to a lot of confusion.

All throughout the coming month, Elidibus will continue to feel a lot of confusion with his ??? Luck. He'll find that nothing tastes right.

Oh, it's not that things taste bad. In fact, everything tastes amazing, it just doesn't taste like the right things.

Take that strawberry for example? Actually, it tastes like pizza. That cup of coffee? A shepherd's pie! This beautiful roast steak? Candy canes.

Again, all of it tastes like the best he has ever had if only it... matched the right food products.

Oh but Ryner, don't you know trouble (and snow) is what these Snorunts are made of?

For the coming month, Ryner will be experiencing some Very Bad Luck. This will come in the form of all his books mysteriously missing their final chapters. His books look completely undamaged and if he tries to check before reading, the final chapter even seems to be there, but if he tries to read it, it's just... gone?

(Though, to be fair, with some books and epilogues, that might just be for the best...)

Sometimes things are exactly as you suspect -- the Snorunts are absolutely taking this wary politeness as an insult.

As a result, Cassandra will be experiencing Very Bad Luck throughout the month with anything electronic. If she tries to send a message with her gear, she might find it going to a completely wrong recipient. Try to take a picture and they are always blurry.

Food! Snorunts sure love food!

Speedwagon will be experiencing some Very Good Luck as a result. This will come in the form of him finding a Rocky Helmet out on the road. No, it's not for him!! It's for one of his pokemon. He already has a hat, after all.

Oof, Ryner is going to be so annoyed...

Edge case question because there is a non-zero chance this nerd would try this: What happens if, after he's attempted to read a book and found that the ending is missing, he then passes the book to someone else to let them read for themselves? Or, like, what if he's trying to read something over someone's shoulder and they get to the last chapter?

~~Sleep is what sufficient amounts of booze is for~~ Does this affect both ears or just one? also rip to anyone who tries to deal with him for the rest the month...

What price indifference? Well, in this case, the cost of neutrality is a month of ???? luck in the form of... uh, adoption? A small scurry of wimpod (which is the scientific term for a collection of wimpod) have taken an interest in Shrike, and they appear to think he needs their help. Though they dart and disappear when startled or faced with a battle, they also nip his pants and try to take him with them to hide, and they keep bringing him ~~trash~~ food...

Of course, wimpod don't know what humans eat, and so they are bringing him basically garbage all the time. Banana peels, empty crisp packets, tomato soup cans... fries they found on the ground.

E...njoy?

The Snorunts most definitely don't think it's a problem! In fact, they must be very grateful... or at least very inspired, because Angel has some very good luck this month!

At some point this January, her regular trip to the ice cream shop turns into a bit of an event, as she is officially their one millionth customer, and you know what that means!

Wait, you don't know what that means?

It means she receives a Permiere Ball containing a Shiny Vanillite! How cute!

After last year Steve will be doing his very best to avoid Snorunts.... easier said than done in a swarm.

Any that show interest in him will be doted on in an attempt to placate them. They will be given whatever he thinks they might want, whether that interpretation is correct or not, but Steve is clearly nervous and desperate to be left alone. He's very easy to jump scare today.

He has also hidden all of his socks. He has not forgotten his month of wet feet from last time.

Basically, as long as Ryner's eyes are on the paper, he won't be able to read the last chapter.

If he hands the book over to someone else, they'll be able to read the last chapter no problem. They could even read said chapter aloud to him. But the moment Ryner tries to catch a glimpse of the text through whatever machinations he might think of (glancing over someone's shoulder, a complex set-up of mirrors) the text is gone.

Just the one ear! Feel free to pick which.

You kick snow at Snorunts? JAIL. A THOUSAND YEARS JAIL FOR JW.

Or, more sensible put, for the rest of the month, JW will be experiencing A Bit of Bad Luck. This bad luck will come in the form of a Stantler following him around to kick snow at him. Nothing else. Just that damn Stantler kicking snow. How do you like them flapples?

The Snorunts weren't expecting to get a brushing down, but it is surprisingly... fun? Relaxing? Like a spa day.

As a result, Annette will be experiencing Very Good Luck throughout the rest of the month. This will come in the form of a Minccino who is very eager and determined to help her with her chores. No matter what Annette might try and do, she won't be able to dissuade this little creature from helping her sweep and brush and make sure the house looks nice and neat.

The Snorunts take to being doted on like fish take to water. It's like having a personal butler for a day!

As a result, Steve will be experiencing Very Good Luck during the rest of the month. This comes in the form of getting a message from the Rocket Admins early into the month, congratulating him for already hitting his targets for the month.

Which... he definitely hasn't? But is he going to look this gift ponyta in the mouth? If the admins think he has already done all his work, that means he's basically got the month off from Rocket Duties. Or, if he does feel like working, everything he turns in will count for extra credit and plenty of cash bonuses.

The Snorunts are always hungry, so the treats will be very well received.

As a result, Rei will be experiencing some Very Good Luck during the month. This comes in the form of the Snorunt she decides to catch knowing both the move Avalanche and the move Icicle Crash (in addition to the normal moves it knows at level 20). The Snorunt must come from powerful stock to have these egg moves.

It also, for some strange reason, kinda smells like Vanilla?

Hermione certainly didn't mean to trip over the Snorunts, but unfortunately, these ones are taking it as a personal affront.

As a result, Hermione will be experiencing A Bit of Batd luck in the form of a Woobat. Which doesn't seem like it would be bad luck, except apparently this Woobat has decided Hermione's hair makes for a perfect nest during this cold winter month. Good luck trying to keep it (literally!) out of her hair.

Oh, they absolutely ran into one of the troublemakers. Or well, pranksters at least.

(Sion is free to guess who's responsible, but all we are saying is look towards a pair of naughty dragons)

As a result, Sion will be plagued with Very Bad Luck during the coming month. This bad luck specifically comes in the form of a Polteageist with a very bad sense of humour. Apparently, it has singled out Sion and Ryner's house as free real estate and in dire need of a haunting.

For the rest of the month, Sion will be subjected too all manner of ghostly pranks, the cheesier the better. And he better not trust any cups of tea.

(and who knows, maybe this is also the creature responsible for Ryner's apparent inability to finish a book this month)

Geralt is mostly going to be treating the Snorunt exactly the same as any other Pokemon-- not going out of his way to make nice with them, but not going out of his way to drive them off. Kind of like how when you own a bunch of cats but you have things to do and you just sort of have to step around the furry shin-height speed bumps that seem to be trying their best to make you fall over. Maybe he'll gently shoo one out of the way if it's in a particularly bad spot, and hopefully ~~none of them are Miette and give him Jail For A Thousand Years~~ it just does as he asks.

The Snorunts seem neither particularly fond of Geralt's treatment, nor are they put out by it.

As a result, Geralt will experience some ??? Luck. This will come in the form of a snow-white horse with a crown of ice he'll find on one of the coldest nights of the month, hunkered down with his own horses. The horse is very haughty, very quick to temper, but also, seemingly, very tired, as if it has come from afar.

The strange horse (Geralt's pokedex will register it as an error) will stay for one night, and one night alone. It will leave immediately if engaged in battle or if someone tries to catch it. It can be photographed or recorded on video in short snatches. Too long and it will get huffy.

If Geralt allows it to stay the full night and manages not to tick it off, the strange horse will travel on again (it's impossible to follow), after leaving a single Instant Noodles behind.

All of Shinobu's various efforts do not go unrewarded. It won't be immediately clear that those Snorunt's reacted positively to (was it the sketches? The food? The chance to finally talk about their deep troubles?) but it is certain that they did.

As a result, Shinobu will be experiencing A Bit Of Good Luck during the month. A few days after encountering the Snorunts, he'll find a thick sketch book on his doorstep. Most of the pages are already filled in with sketches of him and his various pokemon -- or at least, the ones he let the Snorunts meet. The sketches are... lets say, they are more enthusiastic than skilled, but endearing in their own way. The book is being held down by a Shiny Stone.

Shrike is going to be SO CONFUSED. Can the wimpod be caught at the end of the event?
