Hisui event FAQ

This is the FAQ pertaining to the Hisui time-warp event. Please read it all over carefully, and if you still have any questions left, take them to the comment. We'll be getting back to you ASAP.

What about our Pokemon????

They're safe! While there's really no way for Trainers to know this, we do want players to know that the Elite Four will be heading a team for collecting and caring for every Trainer's precious Pokemon while you're... uh, indisposed in the past. No one will be in a Pokeball for a whole month when they shouldn't be.

What is that machine?

Exactly what she said it is! A device that, long ago, may or may not have had something to do with everyone's arrival in Victory Road to begin with, now somewhat altered by Cara Liss, and then somewhat exploded by its poorly-managed arrival into Ancient Hisui.

Wait, did Cara Liss say we're going to go FURTHER into the past? Is that going to happen?

Lmao no. She might have said it, but that's not happening. Cara Liss is a big dreamer, but while the Ginkgo Guild has no particular preference which direction in time and space you all leave to, we rather imagine the rest of you would like to go home! She may not be... the most ethical scientist, or the most competent, or even the most susceptible to peer pressure, she's not actually a bad guy. She's not going to kidnap dozens and dozens of Trainers against their will ON PURPOSE.

Okay, fine. How do we find these parts?

The parts have scattered through four of the five regions of Ancient Hisui: the Obsidian Fieldlands, the Crimson Mirelands, the Cobalt Coastlands, and Mount Coronet. As the month wears on, players can sign up for search groups or simply submit where they're searching, and as people have searched enough of the regions, we will start to declare parts found. Once all the parts are found, the group (following the advice of the Ginkgo Guild) will visit the Temple of Arceus to activate it.

We get a Pokemon, right?

Yes! Just one Pokemon native to Hisui per character, but yes. In order to make this less daunting (and assist those of you whose Pokemon do NOT gain up to 8 levels a week, dear Rockets and Breeders), these Pokemon will start at level 20.

Pokemon native to the Hisui region can be found here. Any Pokemon on the list can qualify for a starter as long as it is (A) not an evolutionary form, and (B) not a legendary. If you are uncertain about a certain Pokemon, feel free to ask!

Can we CATCH Pokemon?

Yes! But! You can only carry up to three... if you catch more than that, you need to let one go. Don't ask why, just understand that having Pokemon, in general, is pretty new here. Try not to scare the locals, even if you're also not allowed in any of the towns because they're already scared of you.

I'm gonna catch an Alpha Pokemon!

We're putting a hard no on that, sorry. They're super wild and super aggressive, and getting them into one of those old-timey Hisuian Pokeballs is just a NIGHTMARE. You're risking actual life and limb here, you know? Especially when you're pairing up with Pokemon you've only just met! Think about how much havoc those Alpha Braviary that got transported to the Present were creating. You can battle them, but capturing and taming one is beyond the scope of your abilities here.

I and/or my character have no interest in battling!

You don't have to battle if you don't want to! In fact, this is one time when battling is 0% necessary to achieve any of the goals.

It's a lot harder to get around, and a lot more dangerous, but it IS possible to avoid clashing with wild Pokemon if you're very sneaky! Unlike Trainers in the modern age, people out in Hisui rely less on their Pokemon and more on items and their own wits. Most of these strategies can be achieved by throwing stuff, though. Some items (like stones and balls of mud) can briefly stun a Pokemon, while just about anything can be thrown in any direction to distract or lead a Pokemon away from you. Berries are great for keeping a Pokemon busy while you sneak around behind them, for example.

What about our PokeGear?

There's no WiFi and no satellite or anything else. So... it's a very nice paperweight right now. At best, you might get an Electric type to charge it so you have a clock, but that Town Map isn't really going to help you now.

So there's no Network?

Nope. You have to talk to people in person. Or maybe write notes to have your Pokemon deliver in their mouth. But that could take days, so like... maybe don't do that.

What was that about our clothes?

Well, as it turns out getting zapped to the past by an unstable machine is pretty hard on clothing! As a result, after their arrival, characters will find themselves in torn and stained clothing. You are not exactly indecent, but it is not comfortable either.

Characters can choose to wash/repair their clothing if they want, or they can accept one (1) new outfit from the Gingko Guild. Available outfits can be found here. Bonus, if you accept these clothes, you won't stand out as much! Downside, the Gingko Guild will expect you to fulfil some menial chores in exchange for your new outfit.

Note, if your character is the sort to wear heavy-duty clothing (or even armor), that won't be affected as badly by this little unexpected trip to the past.

Will we be able to craft items like poke balls?

Alas, no. You can't just take an Apricorn and a Tumblestone and smash them together and get a poke ball. It takes skill and instruction and unfortunately, nobody is around to give that to you. The Gingko Guild is focused on getting you guys out of here, not on teaching you new skills.

Do we have to search for these machine parts?

Er.... no, not if you don't want to. The Ginkgo Guild is offering collection and exploration chores jobs to everyone as a way of paying them back for their extremely generous assistance, for example. A list of these tasks will be posted with the locations and Pokemon at the start of the event. Gathering resources like Leeks and Berries to share with other Trainers is also just a nice thing to do, and helps everyone. You can even do all of these things while also searching for parts, if you really want to get busy. (Please remember to sleep. We are so many centuries away from the invention of Poke-Monster Energy. These people don't even have coffee!)

What is this about chores and missions?

Essentially, throughout this plot, the Ginko Guild will be putting special tasks they want fulfilled on a board for anyone to claim. Call them missions, quests, chores -- whatever you want, it's work and it needs to be done. However, you won't be working for free. The Ginko Guild will be compensating your time with either useful items or money. This will be your only way of earning money during this event (and your modern money is definitely no good), so if you want to have enough cash on hand to afford more pokeballs or other interesting things, you best hustle!

The missions come in two types -- there will be continuous missions and special missions.

Continuous missions are essentially the repeating tasks that come with maintaining a campsite like this. Think of things like cooking, collecting edible plants, and keeping the area around the camp clear of dangerous pokemon. These are simpler tasks that can be fulfilled by any number of people.

Special missions are, well, special tasks. These are tasks that do not repeat. This might be stuff like dealing with a particularly dangerous Alpha pokemon or retrieving a piece of the machine, or basically, anything that once it's done, it's done. Because these tasks are more involved, you cannot simply decide to go and do them. You'll need guild permission!

For more information on the missions during this plot, and to claim some for your own, please go here.

Okay, I actually just hate this plot. What if I don't want to participate?

Well. You can do backtags, or hiatus. Sorry. This isn't something you can avoid, really. You don't have to participate in finding the machinery or picking Pep-up Plants or anything else if you don't want to, but everyone is in the past now. That's just what happened.

Wait, will we leave our new Pokemon partner behind when we leave?

Do you actually think we're that cruel!? Any Pokemon you have at the end of the event can come home with you! They don't have to, but... why would you leave them behind? (Seriously, though, don't worry. If you do choose to have that happen, they'll be in good care with the members of the Ginkgo Guild.)

I just apped in and there's this Event happening?! What do I do!

Welcome to this Event! For now, you're one of many Trainers stranded in ancient Hisui, but you have even less context for what's going on.

Fear not, though, your regular Starter (or Starters, if you're a Rocket) and regularly-scheduled introductory experiences will be waiting for you back home once the event is over.

(You can also wait and re-app when the Event is over. We won't fault you for that.)

Is this our only chance to get Hisuian Pokemon?

Nope! They will become more conventionally available in the future... but there's just something special about a Pokemon you met back in the past who then joins you in the present/future, isn't there?

I have some other questions!

If you have a concern that was not covered here, please take it to the comments, and we'll get back to you ASAP.

End of event FAQ

Okay, what exactly happened just now?

To keep things short, when Cara Liss turned on her machine again in the Temple of Arceus, she broke reality. Just absolutely fucked it up beyond repair.

Or well, beyond the repair of mortal hands. Gods do not enjoy such limitations.

Noticing what had happened, Arceus itself decided to descend from wherever it dwells to fix what had been broken. The damage to reality was extensive, but not beyond its powers. However, it was rather upset to see reality meddled with in such a way, so while it was kind enough to deposit you back into both reality and New Bark Town, it also decided in its infinite wisdom that this machine was not something human hands should be allowed to keep.

Whether Arceus destroyed the machine or is safeguarding it elsewhere is a topic for debate, but needless to say, Cara Liss got her toy taken away and was told very sternly by Arceus to not engage in any Engineering ever again.

Okay but, did Arceus just say that this machine is what brought us here in the first place?

It did seem to imply that. Strange, strange. Where did Cara Liss get those plans from again?

What will be happening to Cara Liss now?

Well. It might surprise you but 'building a strange machine, using it to time travel, and then breaking reality with it' is not actually a crime. Not because it isn't a bad thing to do, but because thought we needed to outlaw that.

So, there is no basis to arrest her, but at the same time, the Pokemon League also doesn't want to let her go off unmonitored.

So, she will be monitored. By a Guard Rotom. Who also has been given the order to destroy any machine Cara Liss tries to build ever again. Which means Cara Liss will have to go back to trying to prove her ancient pokemon exist the old-fashioned way.

(this also means Cara Liss, as a character, will still be available for people who want to obtain a Galarian fossil pokemon for themselves. Just visit her in the old abandoned base on the Sevii Islands and she'll hook you up with a monstrosity of your own.)

And all our pokemon are there?

Yes! All the pokemon you had on you when we left for Hisui have come to pick you up at Mom's. In addition, the pokemon you picked up in the Hisui region (should you choose to bring them home) will be with you as well.

If you had any eggs on you, you'll find those as well, though you will find that they didn't grow during the time you were gone. They need companionship, after all!

What about our things? Our stuff!

First -- everything you had on you from the Hisui region, both items and clothing, has been transported back with you. If you took notes or drew pictures , all of those are with you too.

As for your own things, that depends a bit on where you were when this whole mess started. If your character has a permanent residence, they'll find their stuff waiting for them there. All perfectly fine, though perhaps a little dusty. If you character was travelling on the road or staying in a hotel or poke centre, the Pokemon League will be contacting them shortly to get everything sorted out and to return their things to them. Don't worry, nothing has gotten lost or taken. Your pokemon made sure of that.

What about the Hisui exclusive pokemon? Was that our only chance to catch them?

Well, once you restart your travels, you'll notice a few familiar faces out there on the routes. It looks like those new pokemon you saw in Hisui are now living in Johto and Kanto as well.

Though one interesting thing... if you ask any of the residents about them, they will assure you that the Hisui pokemon have always been there. In fact, many have childhood tales of hanging out with a Hisuian Growlithe or feeding a Wyrdeer. They even have picture proof! They will absolutely not believe you when you tell them that these pokemon did not exist here until recently.

Some Hisui pokemon have unusual methods of evolution. What should we do about that?

Ah, we've already prepared for that! If you had over to our special evolution page, you'll find that we've listed updated methods for Hisuian pokemon to evolve. If you cannot find a certain pokemon there, it means its method of evolution is exactly the same as in the game. i.e. A Hisuian Voltorb evolves by using a Leaf Stone, which can be bought in either of the department stores.

Speaking of the department stores, their product range has been expanded to include a few new products. Though again, if asked, they'll assure you they've always sold these items.

Now that the Hisui pokemon are part of the game -- how about TMs and tutor moves and all that?

Good of you to ask!

First of all, because there are no TMs in the Pokemon Legends game, none of the Hisui pokemon can learn any TM or HM moves. Of course, if they feature in a future game where they can learn these types of moves, those will become available, but until then, you won't be able to expand their moves through these means.

However, tutoring is a valid mean! The many move tutors that travel around Johto and Kanto can now also teach your old Hisui Pokemon some new tricks. There regular rules for move tutors (aka, they can be found anywhere, but be reasonable with it) apply.

I apped during the event, how should I proceed?

Thank for coming onboard during such a weird time.

Now you've been transported back to our regular scheduled nonsense, you'll find a standard backpack, as well as a level five starter waiting for you. They will probably be a little bit confused by whatever pokemon you've picked up in Hisui, but otherwise they are very happy and ready to start travelling with you!

So nothing will be going on for the rest of the month?

While we kept it fairly low key, now that we have concluded the Hisui event, we've gone and updated our calendar with a few little odds and ends to enjoy this month.

Additionally, we're already working on the next event, so keep your eyes open for an info post for that in the next few days.

Just to be clear- is the final event post a sign up, or is it where we post strategies?
