SPOOKTACULAR CONTEST FAQ
What’s that sound? Why, it’s time for another contest! A Halloween party is no fun without a few tricks or treats abound. Grab your jack ‘o lanterns and Halloween costumes, because it’s time to show your stuff!
So…the theme for this contest is Halloween, right?
That is correct! Riegfried and Soy want you (yes, you) to put on the spookiest, scariest Halloween performance! You and your Pokémon will be given all manner of costumes and props to figure out what kind of scene you want to play out that’ll get people into the Halloween spirit. Wanna play out a scene with a Ghost Pokémon being exorcized from a home? Perhaps you’d like to recount the tale of a lost child being led home by his Pokémon companion on Halloween night. Will you show off a spooky, scary trick, or will you give us a treat? The world is your oyster!
As a note, your entry must be strictly PG-13, which means nothing overly graphic or gorey. Remember, there are kids at home watching! We wanna give ‘em a good scare, not traumatize them for life. You can use fake blood and severed (prop) limbs, so long as it’s not too realistic and the tone is appropriate. More Goosebumps or Beetlejuice, less Evil Dead or Texas Chainsaw Massacre. When in doubt, you can ask us if certain elements are okay to use in your submission.
In addition to this, of course…there’s a twist!
Gasp! What’s the twist?
You’ll have to construct your Halloween scene without any Dark or Ghost type moves. We want other Pokémon and move types to show the world just how spooky and scary they can be, too. Get creative--the only thing stopping you is your imagination!
How many Pokémon can we use in our entry?
There will be a maximum of two pokemon, however we ask that only one pokemon take the leading role -- that is to say, only this pokemon will be allowed to use moves on stage. The other pokemon may assist in other ways that don't involve using moves, but should be the supporting actor, so to speak.
Where will this contest be held?
Riegfried and Soy will be hosting this contest at the old creepy abandoned castle off the coast of Cerulean Cape–you know, the one where some weirdos with strange hair previously held prom in 2020. Adds to the ambience, you know, as part of their elaborate Halloween party plans. Even if your character isn’t entering the contest, there will be plenty of fun activities and opportunities to mingle with your fellow trainers!
What will the timeline be for this contest?
Good question!
ICly, the contest is taking place on Monday, October 31st.
OOCly, we will put up the IC log/submission post on Friday, October 28th, with the deadline for entries being Friday, November 4th at 11:59 PM EST
On Saturday, November 5th, we will put up a voting post, which will remain open until Friday, November 11th.
On Saturday, November 12th, results will be posted. This should hopefully give everybody a chance to participate in the contest!
Are there going to be prizes? What can we win?
Prizes will be revealed when results come in, but rest assured that your characters can indeed win something.
How do contests work in VR?
Unlike the games, where there are various categories to participate in, in VR, contests work by trying to match the provided theme (in this case Halloween) as best as possible.
Once all submissions have been gathered, we will set up a poll, and all players can vote for who they feel is the best in show. Voting will be done similar to Eurovision, in which you can give 12 points to your favorite entry, then 10 points to your second favorite, 9 points to third place, etc etc all the way down to 1 point. Points will be tallied and the person with the highest score wins.
In addition, there will be one secret voting category (which will not be revealed until voting commences). Obviously, the parameters for this category are going to be secret, but it could be something like asking you to choose the most humorous entry or the best use of music.
If it still isn’t clear yet, we encourage you to take a look at our contest tag and check out some of our previous contests.

Also, how much are the trainers allowed to participate? Are they allowed to be involved with the two Pokemon as a character in the story?
