The (un)passage of time FAQ
As stated by one of the greatest philosophers of our time, Aaliyah, Age ain't Nothing but a Number and the thing about numbers is that they can change quite quickly. Especially when Arceus is having a feel about things.
All of this to introduce our upcoming Age-Shift event, coming to a game very near you on June 30th.
Your plot introductions are getting worse all the time.
Summer ruins many things.
So. Anyway. What is going on?
On June 30th, for one day, everybody will experience a radical shift in age. This can make them older or younger, depending on what interest you the most.
If aged down, your character will become a child (or, if you are playing one of those strange adult characters, perhaps become a younger adult, or a teen). The exact number of years aged down is entirely up to you. It's also fine to age down a character who has never been shown at a younger age in canon. We trust you and your head canons.
One thing to note though is that if you choose to age your character down, however far, they would not retain any memories of Victory Road. It'd be like freshly apping a child version of your character, except they wouldn't need to show up in New Bark Town. In fact, all their old pokemon would still be there to fuss over them. And after the event is done, they will retain the memories of their additional day of childhood.
The other option is to age up your character. In this case, you'd be playing a hypothetical older version of your character, as if they'd live ten, twenty, however many years you want, more in Victory Road. What kind of future can you imagine for your character? Have they pursued any kind of dreams? Built up a family? It's all up to you.
An aged up character obviously would remember their time in Victory Road. For them, it'd be like being suddenly transport into their past.
(Of course, at this point, they'll have probably lived in Victory Road for ten years and this kind of weirdness is old hat for them.)
Are there any limitations on what kind of future I can give my character?
Not many! Of course, we ask for your futures to be in line with the general setting and rating, but beyond that we'd like to give you plenty of freedom. This is, after all, just a hypothetical future! There is no telling if this will ever come true. Is this even really a future at all or just some fanfiction written about your character by Arceus? We just don't know!
So, be bold! Maybe your character has gone to university and become a professor. Maybe they've opened their own gym. Maybe they've started a family. As long as your future doesn't dictate anything to other people without their consent (obviously, you are absolutely free to plot things out together, but you cannot just decide that your character took over another characters gym in the future), we are happy to just sit back and see what you come up with. Yes, this means it is possible for your future to contain things (such as pregnancies or children) that can't be a part of the game proper.
Could I give my character a bad future?
That is also possible. Of course, it would have to stay within the setting and rating (no Mad Max style apocalypse, sorry) but if you'd like to use this event to explore a less happy future for your character, especially if it ties into your character's current development or choices, that is absolutely something you can do.
Can my character bring anything (pokemon, items) along with them from the future?
That won't be possible, apart from the actual clothes they are wearing. They wouldn't have access to future pokemon (or trained up versions of the pokemon they have now) or any material possessions they might have amassed in the future. Similarly, nothing can stay behind, except memories.
Do I have to participate in this?
Like always, this event is entirely optional. If you have no interest in this kind of event, or if it would be far more interesting for your character to retain their normal age while everybody else changes, that is absolutely possible too!
Where exactly will my character be?
Your character (whether aged down or aged up) will wake up where your character was before the event hit. So, if your character was in Violet City, that is where your aged up/down character will be.
Will my character's pokemon be able to recognise them?
You are free to play this however you wish. Maybe your character has a pokemon who is dumb as rocks and you think it would be funnier for them not to realise. Maybe your character's pokemon is a real brainiac and can put two and two together. It's all possible. Every pokemon is unique, after all.
But generally speaking, your pokemon will have some understanding that this is still their trainer. Especially for characters that have gotten aged down. Need someone to watch them so they won't wander into the tall grass after all!
How long will this event last?
This is just a Freaky Friday type event, so it'll just be for the one day. Of course, you are free to backtag it as long as you want!
Can my character experience multiple changes?
Due to the short duration of the event, we are going to say no. You will have to choose one option.
Is it possible to use a side-journal for icon-purposes?
Certainly. You will have to make any posts under your regular journal, as we won't be granting access to the comms for additional journals, but from there on, you can make comments with a second journal, and it will still count for activity.
Will my character be wearing a fitting outfit or will they be stuck in clothes that are too large or too small?
Your character will wake up wearing clothes that fit their body, that they would've worn at that age. So, if you are turning back the clock for your character, feel free to have them wake up in an outfit you imagine them wearing at that time (or an outfit canon has shown them wearing). If you are aging up your character, feel free to come up with something that you imagine would fit your character in ten, twenty years.
Now those are all the questions we could come up with ahead of time, that we felt you guys might want some clarification on. Of course, there might still be other questions too, in which case, ask them here and we shall get back to them as soon as possible.
In addition, you are also free to use this post as a plotting post. Don't know yet what to do with your character? Trying to hammer out some last detail? Or do you have the perfect idea in mind already and want to see if anyone would be up for threading? This post is the place for it!

okay, maybe lets not go that far into the future....

Questions

In addition I was also wondering if he in his older form can retain his canon future memories or it is just memories in Jotho during the event.

The only additional memories he'd have are of his time in Johto.

Or for people getting aged up, would they have a chance to experience an increase with their abilities?
Or is this just physically, and the restriction on their abilities still apply?

-Oddly calm about waking up someplace he doesn't recognize, once the initial confusion passes. He has all sorts of gaps in his memory, it's fine.
-Wants his cool totally not haunted pendant back since it's missing. (He has no clue it is in fact haunted)
-Just got into TTRPGs and will tell you all about his new White Wizard character if given the chance.
-Thinks occult stuff in general is really cool. (Present day Ryou also likes occult stuff, so this isn't just a twelve year old thing)
