MISCHIEF NIGHT

Mischief Night is upon us!

The air is getting crisp and the leaves are turning! It's the time of year during which all things spooky and sneaky are at their most powerful.

Last year, it was ghosts and psychics that stole the show with a terrifying nightmare forest (to disastrous effect, at least for everybody's psyches)... but this time, this time, it's someone else's turn to shine!

... Or, like, whatever the opposite of shine is. Unshine.

Whatever! DARK-TYPES ARE RECLAIMING HALLOWEEN!! TRICK OR TREAT, SUCKERS!

TIMELINE:

  • 10/24 (today!): OOC Announcement goes up!
  • 10/25: IC event log is posted for forward-dated IC threading!
  • 10/30: Last day to post claims for tricks and treats!
  • 10/31: MISCHIEF NIGHT! Mods will roll for tricks/treats!

  • THE DEETS:

    OH MAN WHAT'S HAPPENING??

TIME TO ROLL YARDS AND EGG HOUSES BAYBEEEEE!!!
  • OOCly: Starting tomorrow, a log will be posted so that everyone can get a good head-start on their IC Halloween shenanigans!
  • ICly: Starting at sundown on October 31st, Dark-types are gonna run the night!
  • To elaborate, your character’s Dark-type pokemon (including dual-types!) will collectively start itching to get out and wreak a little havoc. Pokeballs cannot contain them, and neither can a human's orders! You're not the boss of them! IT'S HALLOWEEN! Regardless of their personality, they'll be feeling frisky and will take off for a night on the town, even if it means disobeying their trainer!

"A NIGHT ON THE TOWN"?? WHAT'S THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN?

It can mean something different for every Pokemon but mostly will fall into two categories: they're either gonna play outrageous tricks to brag to their trainers about, OR go gather up tempting treats to bring home for everyone!

See, that's not so bad! ... Probably!

GASP!! BUT MY POKEMON WOULD NEVER!!

That’s okay! If you do not wish for your character’s Pokemon (or even just certain specific Pokemon) to answer the call of All Hallow’s Eevee (u see wat i did there), they can remain loyal! Just don't include them in your tricks/treats claim (we'll explain that below!) and they'll be good as gold all night long.

But remember, Halloween is a big deal to Dark-type Pokemon this year... the rowdier ones might see your goodie-two-shoes Sneasel sitting at home as a party pooper who deserves to be pranked extra hard!

WHAT IF MY CHARACTER DOESN'T HAVE ANY DARK-TYPE POKEMON?

Worry not! There will be a swarm of Dark-types making its way across Kanto and Johto looking to get in on the fun. It won’t be terribly hard to capture them since it wouldn’t be any fun for them without a human they can party with!

ALL OVER THE MAP, trainers will be able to find Alolan Meowth, Poochyena, and Murkrow swarming in particularly impressive quantities!

Additionally, any dark-types already present in the local wild population (see the Pokemon Availability Pages) will be much more common regardless of their usual rarity. Which means... trainers, if you're currently eligible and have been hoping and dreaming of finding a shiny Dark-type in your area, Halloween night might be a good time to pop over to the Shiny Request page and see what you get! ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

HOW MANY OF MY CHARACTER'S DARK-TYPE POKEMON CAN PARTICIPATE?

All of them! Yes, even the Pokemon not currently on your character’s battle team can come out to play if you wish! Maybe Nephelis helped them stage a mini-jailbreak from their Pokeballs-- he's a Dark-type too, after all!

Just remember, you must link to them on your roster at the check-in posts to get the goods. If you want to include Dark-type Pokemon captured that night from the Halloween swarms, make sure you update your rosters to include them!

WHAT KINDS OF TREATS CAN MY POKEMON BRING BACK?

All kinds of things! Everything from Rare Candies and Berries, to random junk like traffic cones or somebody’s garden gnomes... but if you're REALLY lucky, treat-seeking Pokemon might find special items like evolutionary stones or ability-changing candy!

The more Dark-types your character has, the more chances they have to roll for treats!

In order to claim the rewards, there will be a check-in thread where you can tell us which of your Pokemon went out looking for treats. You will be required to link to each member of your roster who trick-or-treated. We will use a RGN and a prize table to reward each Pokemon for their efforts!

For example if your two Murkrow, your Umbreon, and your Alolan Meowth went out for goodies, we will roll four times and you will get four treats!

WHAT KINDS OF TRICKS CAN MY POKEMON PLAY?

Oh, the mischief Pokemon in a large group can get up to! Egging houses, digging up yards, surprising unsuspecting strangers with illusions and hastily crafted costumes, breaking windows, switching other trainers’ pokeballs, and much much more! Tricks can range anywhere from mildly mischievous like putting an overripe Oran Berry on someone's chair right before they sit down to total anarchy like stealing a Jenny's motor scooter and joyriding around town.

Just like with the treats, you can tell us in your check-in thread which of your Pokemon are out causing havoc and, if desired, we will type you up a special report on what they got up to!

THAT SAID, this is optional and does not overrule or take precedence over your own ideas for pranks if you have them! You can 100% have your Absol arrange a grisly Calvin and Hobbes-style pumpkin massacre in somebody’s front yard with or without our input, but if you're interested we can tell you about how she also filled somebody’s house with glitter-filled balloons. That stuff gets everywhere!

    CAN MY POKEMON DO BOTH?

You can participate in both tricks and treats, BUT individual Pokemon in the event must pick one or the other. Sneasel, Houndoom, and Umbreon can go rolling yards while your goodest girl Mightyena can go door to door for goodies.

WHAT ABOUT MY NON-DARK POKEMON, OR MY CHARACTER THEMSELVES?

Your character and the rest of their team aren’t going to be left out of the fun-- there will be a Halloween log and all are free to thread on the event as per normal. Your character might want to run with the pack and join in the havoc, or perhaps they will haggardly follow behind their very insistent Purrloin as she demands to pick out THE BEST costume before going out for treats.

All Pokemon can cause mischief or seek out yummy treats, but only the Dark-types will feel The Call and be able to roll for special treats or receive custom pillage reports.

WHAT IS THE PHYSICAL SCOPE OF THIS EVENT? ARE THE POKEMON/CHARACTERS LIMITED TO THE GENERAL VICINITY OF WHEREVER THEY ARE AT THE TIME?

It would be very difficult to spread mischief in just ONE town! As it happens, a particularly tech-savvy Sableye belonging to a Pokemon Center worker managed to hack into the warp pad system and completely remove restrictions, allowing not only travel around all three regions, but also for Pokemon to travel by themselves!

This means that your unruly flock of Vullaby can ditch quiet, boring Azalea and head to Saffron to raid a goth fashion store. But on the other hand, it also means you can pursue them even if you've never been there yourself-- though good luck catching up, you'll need it!

At the end of the night, most of the wayward Pokemon will start drifting home of their own volition, and the warp system will be restored to its normal state a little after sunrise (thanks to the frantic efforts of lots of technical support workers throughout the night, possibly while having their offices egged and TP'd by roving Dark-types).

Because of how haywire the system went, unfortunately no locations warped to during the event will register to anybody's trainer IDs, so afterwards everybody will still have to travel the map like normal to obtain warp privileges!

CAN YOU EXPLAIN THE TIMELINE OF THE EVENT?

ICly, this event is one night only! The Pokemon are going to start feeling crafty when the sun starts to set on Halloween Night, and will become loyal again when the sun rises on November 1st.

On the OOC side of things, the event post will go up on October 25th so that you can start playing out your Halloween fun. This post will include the check-in Trick and Treat threads!

If you want to claim tricks and treats, you MUST reply to the check-in threads before midnight on October 30th or we will not be able to roll for prizes or write up summaries of your Pokemon’s adventures. The prizes will be rolled on Halloween night!

This is a very silly question, but can pokemon use warp pads on their own (or try to)?

Are the swarms of the dark pokemon and the surge local, wild dark pokemon numbers going to be a just Halloween night thing, or are they going to show up now, until Halloween is over?
