Mega-stones, Alcremie and contests, oh my!

Gather around, gather around, because after that exciting EV News broadcast, we have plenty of new information for you. Underneath the cut, you will find information on the new Mega-stones, evolving Alcremie and the upcoming contest. As well as a little something extra. We ask you to read everything carefully as we have tried to anticipate as many of your questions as we could. But of course, if any questions remain, we are happy to answer them.

Holy crap, new mega-stones!!

Holy crap, new mega-stones!!

So, how can my character obtain one of these new mega-stones?

The answer to that depends a bit on whether your character already has a mega-stone.
My character already has a mega-stone

If your character already owns a mega-stone, it is quite simple. By contacting the Pokemon League, they can exchange their current mega-stone for any other available mega-stone, including the new ones (starting on June first). Characters can exchange stones once every three months, so please make your choice wisely.

My character doesn’t have any mega-stones

In this case, any character can obtain a Key-stone along with a mega-stone by defeating all eight gyms of a single region. Note, defeating eight gyms across two regions does not count. It has to be eight gyms of the same region. Once they have done this, they will be approached by the Pokemon League and offered a Key Item and a mega-stone of their choice. From June first, the new stones will be included too.

Note that in general characters can only own one mega-stone at a time. The exception to this is trainers who can, if they defeat all sixteen gyms, request a second mega-stone.

Which new mega-stones will be available?

Starting June first, the following new mega-stones will become available:

✭ Charizard (Charizardite Z)
✭ Butterfree (Butterfreenite)
✭ Pikachu (Pikachunite)
✭ Meowth (Meowthite)
✭ Machamp (Machampite)
✭ Gengar (Gengarite II)
✭ Kingler (Kinglerite)
✭ Lapras (Laprasite)
✭ Eevee (Eeveenite)
✭ Garbodor (Garbodorite)
✭ Corviknight (Corviknite)
✭ Flapple / Appletun (Applenite)

In general, this corresponds to pokemon who already have been in the game for a long time and new Galar pokemon that have already been introduced. For the pokemon that have a gigantamax form but that are not on the list, those stones will be added at a later date. The Pokemon League scientists can’t study what they don’t know!

How will these new mega-forms match up to the pokemon’s gigantamax form in the games?

A good question.

First things first, the insane sizes? Unfortunately, that is not something the scientists were able to replicate. What this means is that using these new mega-stones, pokemon will assume a form similar to the game’s gigantamax shape, but much smaller in size.

As a rough rule of thumb
✭ If your pokemon is already over five feet tall in their regular form, their new mega-form will be roughly the same height. There might be some small growth, but nothing substantial.

✭ If your pokemon is under five feet tall in their regular form, their new mega-form will increase their size to an upper bounds of five feet.

In addition to the change in form, the pokemon will receive a boost to their stats. Obviously, VR is not an exact stats sort of game, so we cannot give you specific numbers for each new mega-form, but just assume a general increase to a pokemon’s stats as you have seen in the games with the regular mega-forms.

Unlike true gigantamax which is limited to certain members of a pokemon’s species, these new mega-stones will work for all members of that pokemon’s species.

As mega-forms do not come with any changes to the moves a pokemon knows, in VR, the concept of G-max moves (and max moves) will not be present.

Beyond this, the regular rules for mega-evolution apply.

I have a mega-question not answered here.

Please leave your question in the comments and we will get back to it ASAP.

Alcremie! Alcremie! Alcremie!!

Alcremie! Alcremie! Alcremie!!!

I really really need a sweet. How can I get them?

Essentially, there will be three ways for a character to obtain a sweet.

✭ They can order them via Pidgey post. In this case, the full amount needs to be paid.

✭ They can buy them in Mille’s shop in Pallet town.

✭ If you character does not have the means to buy one of these sweets, Mille is willing to exchange three days of work for one sweet. Don’t worry, she is quite the sweet boss. She’ll mostly ask characters to do chores around the shop, help out behind the counter, help out with the baking if the character has a knack for that, or do general maintenance chores like cleaning the gutters. She will definitely try and find something that fits the character’s skills!

How much will the sweets cost?

Each Sweet will cost 10.000p

That is so expensive! Why is it so expensive?!

Mille has student debt.

Can my character eat the sweets?

There is nothing stopping you. They even taste incredible. But there are cheaper ways to get a snack, you know. Have you tried Mille’s donuts?

I have another sweets-related question!

Please ask it in the comments and we will get back to you ASAP.

Forget all of that -- tell me about this new contest!

Let’s do that!

After a long (very, very, very long, sorry about that) absence, it’s time to bring back a touch of glamour to VR with a new contest. And due to how long it has been, we’ve also taken this opportunity to reformat our contest structure a bit. Our main reasons for doing this is that our previous set-up often led to a very uneven division between different attributes -- meaning that someone in the cute or beauty category might not have the same chance of winning as someone entering in one of the other attributes. And with how the game has shrunk and slowed a bit, we worried that that might grow even worse.

We want every participant to have the same chance of winning, so we all put our heads together and tried to figure out a way to both capture the essence and creative fun of contests but also create an equal playing field.

So! Without further ado, please allow us to present to you our new Contest Nouveau Style!

Okay, so how does this work?

Previously, contests in VR functioned much as they do in the games. You picked a certain trait (Cool, beauty, cute, clever or tough) to enter in and you tried, as much as possible, to embody that category.

That is off the table now.

Instead, this new contest style has all participants competing against each other, ensuring that everybody has the same chance of winning. Like before, the winners are picked by you. When all the contest entries are in, players will be able to rank all, with ranks corresponding to certain points. The entry with the most points will win.

If this sounds familiar, you too have seen Eurovision. Or participated in one of our previous contests.

But without categories how are you supposed to judge the different entries?

This is where our new Themes will come in.

Every contest will henceforth have a theme and it is the participants’ task to try and embody that theme as well as they can with their performance. Now, these themes are obviously going to differ from contest to contest and they can be anything from a concept (‘Good VS Evil’ like in this contest) to a focus on a specific pokemon type (rock/ground pokemon really don’t get the focus they deserve in the contest scene, huh?) to maybe a focus on a certain evolutionary stage or use of a certain prop. The sky's the limit!

Now, for this contest, the theme will be ‘Heroes and Villains, the dazzling battle between good and evil!’ so essentially, the task of your character and their pokemon is to think up a short performance that best embodies this theme and put it out there on the stage.

Okay, I think I’ve got all that. Are there any other rules?

Yes, there are. After all, our goal is to create an equal playing field, so each contest will have a few rules to assure that everybody is working within the same boundaries. Should any contest entry break one of these rules, unfortunately, they will be disqualified.

We ask people to pay attention to these rules, as they might change from contest to contest, depending on which theme is in play.

For this contest, the rules are

- max five minutes per performance.
- max of 1 pokemon.
- must include 1 pokemon move as part of your performance.
- may use props/costumes/stage props, but must provide these yourself.

Will there be prizes?

There will most certainly be prizes. In addition to a prize for first, second and third place, there will also be a special mystery bonus prize which will not be revealed until the vote. This could be something like a special bonus prize for the person with the best use of props. Or for the best costume. Or for the most unique pokemon choice. Etc etc. But again, this category is a secret until the voting actually goes up!

The contest will be in Cianwood, but my character is too far to travel there in one week. What do?

Like with previous events, this time too, UBIRD will be standing by to fly people from all over to Cianwood. It’s not a free service, unfortunately, but better than missing the festivities, right?

I have some feedback on this new contest form.

Please do! We know this is a big change, and we are hoping it is one that sits well with the game as a whole. However, we also understand that because there are a lot of changes at once, some things might need a bit of fine-tuning. So any feedback you can give us would be very helpful and we’d definitely take that into account for the next contest. Which we promise will be held sooner than a year from now.

I don’t have feedback, but I do have some questions!

Drop us a comment, and we will get back to you ASAP.

And now for something completely different.

Hey there trainers! It's Head Mod Kit. First off, I hope everyone's holding up okay. It's pretty rough right now for all of us-- and with that in mind, I've got a bit of a bittersweet announcement. While the past few years since I stepped into the mod seat have been a wild ride and an incredible privilege, I've been slowly going bonkers balancing RP obligations with RL stuff. So it's time for me to step back a bit-- although not entirely! I'll still be hanging around as a tech mod, helping the rest of the team continue to keep this place fun. With that in mind, I'm extremely excited (and proud!) to announce that I will be passing my Head Modly position to Dees, who's been performing at a herculean level ever since joining the crew.

How should these new mega forms be handled in terms of ability? Since a lot of the actual mega evolutions introduced new ones- would these simply keep their original abilities instead?

Just figured I'd ask just to be safe.
