Cooking Contest FAQ

We were originally going to post this along with the IC log on Friday, but we heard your cries for more information, and we had a bit of extra free time, so please enjoy a slightly early Cooking Contest FAQ.

And for those that have not experienced a VR contest before, it might help you to check out our previous contest FAQ as well.




How will this contest be run?

Obviously, as it is difficult to cram cooking something spectacular in a few minutes, this contest will adopt a slightly different format from regular contests.

In order to make it viewable by an audience, the cooking itself will happen before the actual contest and will be filmed and edited into a decent-sized broadcast which will feature all characters. It will be a day-long event, which will be divided up into two parts in the log -- one part for the actual cooking (during which you are free to have any sort of interactions with the other contestants) and one part for the viewing/after-party which will essentially be a free-for-all mingle log.

Essentially, the goal of this contest is to prepare a food item of your character's choice, however your character's chosen partner pokemon for the contest must meaningfully contribute to the actual process by using something in their move-pool as a cooking move.

For example, perhaps your character's Charmander will contribute by cooking the sausages your character has decided to make with its Flamethrower.

We encourage you to get as creative with this as you want! Look at your pokemon's battle moves and really think how these could work in a kitchen environment. Obviously, it's totally fine to scale down the strength/area of effect of said move. We will assume your pokemon are disciplined enough to pull this off.

The exact parameters of the contest will be: ✭ All cooking will take place in Riegfried and Soy's kitchen; ingredients and cooking equipment will be provided by the generous hosts, so nothing can be brought into the kitchen except yourself, your pokemon and your good spirits. ✭ You may cook any dish you desire ✭ The Kitchen will be open for six hours, so whatever you decide to cook must be prepared within that time frame ✭ You are required to use at least one pokemon move in the baking process. ✭ Everything will be filmed. This is not optional as this is how the contest will actually be viewed by the audience.

Are there any limitations on what the characters can cook?

Characters will be free to cook whatever they want, as long as it fits the six hour time limit. They can hand in a piece of toast if they so desire. They probably won't win, but they won't be stopped.



How will the voting work?

Like always, the actual voting will be done by the players of the game.

The contest log itself (including the submissions) will go up on friday. On Sunday, we will create a poll with all entries and ask everybody in the game to vote. We will have the results by Tuesday/Wednesday, depending on how quickly everybody responds to the poll.

The winners and prizes will be revealed by Riegfried and Soy on the contest log in a previously frozen comment.

Now obviously none of us can taste this fictional cooking, so we will be asking players to cast their votes based on creativity. Who managed to integrate their pokemon into the cooking process in the best/most remarkable way?

Like last time, there will be a secret category to vote for, but it won't be revealed until voting time is here!



This contest sounds great, but where will it be held exactly?

The contest will be held at Riegfried and Soy's private mansion which is located near the Safari Zone in Jotho.

Any character who wishes to attend, whether as a contestant or as a viewer, will be offered transportation by Riegfried and Soy free of charge. They are ridiculously rich.



Can we sabotage the other contestants?

If you hash this out with the other player, and if your sabotage is subtle enough that Riegfried and Soy don't notice (they will be walking around, conducting small interviews with contestants about their cooking), feel free.

Does milking the Miltank and/or Gogoat count as using a Pokemon move? like Milk Drink is a move! But the Pokemon, well, drinks the milk, and the milk then can't be used in the recipe.

For the contest, it would be allowed to modify Milk Drink to a degree where the milk isn't drunk by the pokemon but instead collected in a glass or bucket.

Will they serve the food the contestants made at the after-party?

It will be an option if possible.

Obviously, not every dish is going to be easy to serve hours later, especially if there is only a small quantity. But if someone made enough of it, it could definitely be available during the after-party, in addition to all the rest of the food Riegfried and Soy are having catered.

Is it possible to enter as a pair of characters each with their own partner pokemon, so the four of them work together on one dish?

No. Unfortunately, that would create an unfair advantage compared to the other competitors. Everybody is supposed to compete on their own with one pokemon as their partner.

Will PC viewers be present at the cooking portion, or just the after party?

Just at the afterparty, where they will be shown the cut/edited recordings of the afternoon. This will also be available online for people who are unable to attend in person.

Are we pretending in any capacity that taste is a factor in the judging ICly? Or are Riegfried and Soy smarter than to try whatever these yahoos actually cook up?

Riegfried and Soy will give the voters their very generous impression of the various dishes, so taste will be a small component, but mainly it will be judged based on creativity and showmanship.

Unless you poison the judges, in which case you are out.

Can Pokemon only use one move while helping their Trainer make anything?

They need to use at least one move, though there is nothing that forbids further involvement!

Is it a return ticket or do you end up stranded in the safari zone?

Sorry for the wait on this, but yes, a return ticket will be provided, unless characters would really rather stay near the Safari Zone.
