Snorunt Fortunes: the returning

There exists an old superstition that Snorunts bring luck and good fortune to those that treasure them. 'Look into a rich man's past, and you will find a Snorunt there' is something you might hear from older relatives to explain why some of us enjoy more fortune than others.

Well. It turns out those old people are right. Up to a point, at least.

Whether they actually bring good or bad luck themselves or if there is some luck-giving entity that is just very concerned with Snorunt Treatment is something that can be discussed at length, but the fact remains that how you treat a Snorunt can definitely affect your luck in life. And today, characters get to experience that for themselves.

Today, wherever your character may roam, they'll find Snorunts there. Even if they just stay at home, they might find their garden teeming with Snorunts or that the little creatures have somehow managed to get into their kitchen and have turned their fridge into a nice little hang-out. It's almost like a normal swarm, and it is possible for characters to catch the Snorunts if they want, however, unlike a normal swarm, the way your character interacts with the Snorunts will affect their luck for the duration of a month (Up to February first).

Comment on this post with your character, and how they might be dealing with the Snorunts swarming everywhere. Are they ignoring them? Trying to catch them? Will they play with them, and if a Snorunt tries to get into their home, how will they react? Don't worry, we are not looking for an essay, just a line or two is enough.

Based on that, your character will receive one of five fortunes for the coming month. These range from Great Luck, Just a bit Lucky, ??? Luck, Just a bit unlucky, to Great Misfortune and can affect anything from making your character particularly vulnerable to tiny little mishaps or fortunes to actually affecting things like the likeliness of them encountering/breeding a shiny pokemon or how many levels their pokemon can gain.

Mind you though, that these Snorunt are rather unpredictable. What could lead to a great fortune from one Snorunt could be taken as a complete insult by another Snorunt. Like someone once said, life is like a completely randomly decided fortune by some website generator; you never know what you are going to get!

Oh, and as always, this event is entirely optional!

Harry tries to befriend some of the Snorunt that show up at the backyard of the Feblemtrioka compound at Olivine City. Even giving them some Pokémon food and playing with them and his team.

The Snorunts appreciate Harry's attempts at making friends, though they aren't quite sure how to take his advances.

As a result, Harry will experience some ??? Luck during the rest of the month. This comes in the form of a very overbearing but loving Garbodor who, for whatever reason, has developed an instant attachment to Harry, taking care of him as if he were her own Trubbish. For the rest of the month, he'll go protected and unbothered by anyone on account of his new huge Garbage Mom. On the other hand, he'll also have to contend with her constant fussing and garbage gifts. Literally.

Though he'll shoo out any Snorunt that got into his kitchen, Boober finds them very cute and will offer them little snacks when encountered in other spaces. He will also be careful to keep Traveler the Hisuian Growlithe away from the little ice types when she inevitably tries to befriend them.

Unfortunately, one of the Snorunts he shooed out of his kitchen was really interested in picking up some cooking skills, so while most are more than happy to be gently redirected and given snacks, he will occasionally feel a very cold stink-eye on him.

As a result, Boober will experience A Bit of Bad Luck during January. This comes in the form of Ants. Or, well, just one Ant. A Durant. Maybe it is attracted by the warmth of the apartment, maybe it is attracted by the food Boober cooks, but for the rest of the month, one somewhat grumpy Durant is going to take up residence in his apartment. No amount of shooing will get it to leave (though it might skitter under the table) and you best not leave out any leftovers within its reach.

Emporio, for once not camping, happily offers the snorunt some of his holiday candy. ...the good stuff.

Unless they want the weird stuff, which, to be fair, he warns them is 'very weird' and 'probably won't taste right, or even good'

The Snorunts happily accept the Holiday Candy. Yes, all the stuff. Also the weird stuff. The only problem seems to be that they are rather puzzled by who is handing them these goodies. Is it a child? A Gengar? The unholy combination of both? Very confusing!

As a result, Emporio will experience a bit of ??? Luck during the rest of the month. This will come in the form of becoming the subject of a Private Snorunt Investigation. For the rest of the month, he'll constantly feel eyes on him, and if he is very observant, he might notice something small a triangular watching him from behind bushes and around corners. Occasionally, things of his will go missing. They'll get returned to him, but each time they do, they'll be covered in a thick layer of ice. Oh, and he'll be receiving letters. The letters will all say things like 'WHO aRE You?', 'WHAT', 'CHILD??', 'ghOST??'. They'll also be composed of cut-out magazine letters.

(That is not actually meant to be threatening, this Snorunt is just kinda bad at writing and cut and pasting is much easier.)

Carly is tired. Carly is exhausted. The holiday was so much. She sees the snorunt, and, defeated, opens her door to offer airconditioned reprieve from the sevii island sun, quietly asking Arceus to please have mercy.

Thankfully, the Snorunts showing up at her door are perfect guests. They are happy to chill in her living room, quietly sipping drinks and not causing any fuss.

As a result, Carly will experience A bit of Good Luck during the rest of the month. It looks like those Snorunts noticed how stressed she was, and they are going to try and help with that. Their help comes in the form of little gifts left to Carly. She might find them on her doorstep, left on a window sill, or right on the path she walks.

The gifts themselves are small little keepsakes a Pokemon might consider worthwhile. She'll find handfuls of berries, lovely rocks, a frisbee that someone very clearly once lost in a bush and was later found, a half-eaten Rage Candy Bar, etc. Listen, they are trying, okay.

Having experienced this last year, Louie won't be very phased by the Snorunt. He'll mostly give them their space! If any come close, there's a good chance Louie will absent-mindedly go to pet them, though of course that doesn't last long. Cold!

Unfortunately for Louie, once the Snorunts are experiencing the joy of getting petted, they don't want it to stop. And they get very offended when he doesn't allow himself to get frostbite in order to do so!

As a result, Louie will be experiencing A Bit of Bad Luck during the rest of the month. Mishaps just seem to come so easily to him this month. He'll spill drinks almost just by looking at them. He'll be tripping over his feet like he's only just learning to walk. Put anything in his pocket, and he'll find there is a hole in it.

Mind you, none of these little mishaps will have very big consequences. It's just all very constant. Unending.

Minfilia, for her part, has been walking around with her Arctozolt a lot - and said Arctozolt will be trying to play with them, like, hardcore. Said playing is trying to use Blizzard on them...

(Minfilia will either encourage this or not, depending on how the Snorunt are acting.)

The Snorunts do not appreciate being Blizzard-ed!! And even though Minfilia tries to stop her Arctozolt, she has already earned their ire.

As a result, throughout January, Minfilia will be dealing with Great Misfortune. Her misfortune comes in the form of a pair of thieves, a Murkrow and a Nickit. This sophisticated criminal duo has apparently decided that Minfilia has too many things and it would be far better if her things became their things. For the rest of the month, she'll be fending off sneaky attacks from this duo. These will start with the classic injury con (one pretends to be injured, while the other goes through her bag) but once she becomes wary of those, they'll switch to using illusions and mimicked speech.

Varian is spending the start of the year taking apart a flashlight to see if he can add to or modify it... And the Snorunt will unfortunately come around to his frustrated, vaguely obsessive attempts going quite wrong. They should be safe barring maybe a small shock here and there, but Varian will be firm in getting them out of his space.

Thankfully, these particular Snorunts are quite patient and forgiving, so they don't mind getting shooed away or even the small shocks.

As a result, Varian will be experiencing A bit of good luck throughout January. For the rest of the month, his technological experiments will work... just not how he intended them to. If he is trying to modify a flashlight to be brighter, for example, he might find that he instead made it have a very concentrated beam like a laser. With some reverse engineering, he'll be learning a lot during through month. Just... maybe not exactly what he set out to learn, but new knowledge nonetheless!

As for Fordola? After the Delibird, she is.

She is going to try and kick them. Yell at them.

Unfortunately for Fordola (Or maybe fortunately?) the Snorunts seem to be under the impression that her kicking and yelling at them is like a game. So for the rest of the day, she'll be dealing with a mob of Snorunt wanting to play.

But, it is not all bad! Because as a result, she'll have Great Luck in January. This will come in the form of walking into a store one day and getting told she is their 1,000,000th Customer! As a reward, she'll receive a multi-use TM of her choice! Hooray!

Kaiba is journeying through Saffron City when he encounters the Snorunt, and they're always shivering. He has plenty of Pokémon treats on his person from New Years, so he'll offer them food in an attempt to calm them.

His baby Nacli is carefully kept away from them, but Leizi the Alolan Raichu tries to initiate a gentle game of tag.

The Snorunts are really curious about his Nacli, so they are a little disappointed they are not allowed to play with them, but playing tag with Leizi makes up for it somewhat.

As a result, Kaiba will experience A bit of Good Luck in January. At some point, while he is out and about, he'll come across a Rock Gem! It must have been dropped on the ground by someone, but there is nobody around to claim it. So it is his now.

Naeva, of course, is absolutely delighted by the snorunt and will play with them and give them some pokepuffs. She has no idea what's going to happen to her. She just thinks they're adorable.

The Snorunts love all of Naeva's good care and pokepuffs!

As such, she'll experience Great Luck in January. The day after the Snorunts leave, she'll have another visitor instead -- A luck-bringing Togetic. While she won't be able to catch him (though once the month is over, she might be able to convince him to stay), this cheerful pokemon will stay with her throughout the month, spreading happiness and joy wherever she goes. Naeva will find that anything she attempts to do, whether it is training her pokemon, bonding with them, or even just navigating the world, will go just a bit easier! Wild pokemon will leave her be, those everyday small misfortunes just pass her by. This month will be one of luck and joy!

Misaki is inherently wary of weird pokemon showing up and trying to get into her sleeping bag while she's still lost in some Arceus forsaken forest but she is not heartless entirely. She may give them a little bit of sandwich.

Unfortunately for Misaki they wanted all of the sandwich.

As a result, she'll experience Great Misfortune in January. Her misfortune comes in the form of a very cute, very soft-looking Glameow that will be dogging her steps through the whole month. Wherever she goes, this pokemon will go, sitting just out of her reach and looking so goddamn pettable. But no matter what Misaki tries, this Glameow will refuse to let her touch its luscious soft fur. She'll get swiped at, the Glameow will dart into the bushes. It's just denial all around.

And the worst thing? The absolutely 100% worst thing?

That goddamn Glameow will let everybody else pet it without problem. And the people who pet it cannot help but rave about how soft its fur is and how sweet it purrs.

Jarlaxle is quite pleased to see all these little triangular creatures outside his and Kimmuriel's rental cottage after returning from their New Year's weekend getaway in Blackthorn. He'll go and get some of the leftover liqueur chocolates from Christmas and hand them out to the little guys. This will have no repercussions whatsoever.

Jarlaxle!! Has nobody ever told you not to get pokemon drunk!!

Well, maybe it is a good thing they haven't, because the Snorunts seem to love the liquer chocolates.

As a result, Jarlaxle will experience Great Luck in January. While out and about one day, he'll find a beautiful and strange feather on the ground. It is absolutely pristine and strangely, it seems to glow a bit in low light. If he does some research, he'll find that the feather matches no known pokemon except maybe... but that couldn't be, right?

Min-Gi is trying so hard to avoid the cold. Which at this point amounts to holing up inside the Vermilion inn he's been stopping at as much as humanly possible.

He won't bother any Snorunt that do get in the room outside of maybe double checking none of the ones leaving are Ryan's Snorunt, Boo. He doesn't think she'd wander off like that, but it doesn't hurt to be safe.

He also has a couple of ice types of the Alolan variety the Snorunts would maybe enjoy playing with! A Vulpix and a Sandshrew. Snow friends?

The Snorunts visiting the inn are quite pleased by the playtime they get to spend with Min's Vulpix and Sandshrew. Snow friends? Snow friends!

As a result, Min-gi will be experiencing Great Luck throughout the month. One of the performances he and Ryan give ends up going a bit viral. Now, it isn't 'record deal, invited on TV to sing with Delja Catty' kind of viral, but any performance they give this month will draw plenty of people (and more importantly, plenty of pay). And once January is over, people won't just suddenly forget about Chicken Choice Judy either. This is a bit of a permanent career boost. Just the sort of thing you are looking for as starting musicians.

Narancia will be doing his best to be very nice to the Snorunt after what happened last time, not wanting a repeat. He'll even let them spend some time with Patata, the Onix they sent after him for a month! Look how big she's gotten since then! She's not a baby anymore!

The Snorunts are quite pleased to hang out with Patata and climb all over her. She has gotten very large, it is true! Definitely not a baby anymore!

As a result, this year, Narancia will be gifted A bit of good luck. This will arrive in the form of a man-sized Onix body pillow, which will simply appear in his bed one morning. He took such good care of Patata, so clearly he must be coo-coo for, uh, Onixes.

The body pillow is really soft and comfortable, but also, again, the size of a full-grown man.

Oh no... these guys again. Given last year's fortunes for her found family, she's wary, but she definitely wants to appease them. She'll send out as many of her Ice Pokémon as possible to play with them, including having her Frosmoth Sina use Snowscape to make things comfy, while she brings out ice cream, Pokémon treats, and the remains of the holiday cookies for them to snack on as they play on the beach.

The Snorunts enjoy the offered snacks. A bit too much, unfortunately, and they all end up with tummy aches.

As a result, Allura will have to deal with A bit of bad luck in the coming month.

It's... nobody's fault. Just a very unfortunate combination of a beach, a frisbee, a few small children, and Allura's face being in the wrong place at the wrong time. And really, the doctors will assure her her eye will heal perfectly fine! She just... kinda has to wear this eyepatch for the rest of the month.

Yarrr.

Ryou, probably still not quite aware that his new Greavard friend keeps unintentionally draining his life force, is going to be kinda tired and just sit and watch the Snorunt play. Maybe he'll even try to befriend one once he realizes that female Snorunt can evolve into Froslass.

They seem harmless enough, right?

Right?

Absolutely 100% completely harmless. Look at these little creatures. They are fully free of sin. They've never considered a single crime in their lives!

So, anyway, they just really do not like the look of Ryou. That hair? Those clothes? Totally passé. What is this? The nineties?

As a result, Great Misfortune will befall Ryou during the month of January. And his great misfortune will come in the form of Love.

Not on his end though. Instead, a passing Carnivine will develop what can only be described as an instant and unending love for Ryou. She is absolutely convinced they are made for each other, despite the fact that Ryou isn't even a pokemon, and nothing will dissuade her from what is clearly her true love. No matter what Ryou will try to discourage her, or if he tries to run and hide, she'll find him, wrap her vines around him, and squeeze the living daylights out of him.

Sandalphon is actually rather happy to see the little Snorunts again, after last year. They made a decent impression on him. Iced Coffee the Snorunt is actualy screaming in joy to see her old friends again.

If they drag him into playing, they'll find him agreeing (even if it's a bit reluctantly). He's mellowed out thanks to Corrin.

The Snorunts are jumping with joy to see Iced Coffee again and Sandalphon will absolutely get dragged into a rambunctious play session.

As for his fortune -- Sandalphon will receive A bit of good luck during the month of January. This will come in the form of a pokemon-made bridal veil arriving on his doorstep. You see, during their play session, Iced Coffee definitely spilled the (pardon the pun) beans on the upcoming nuptials and the Snorunts wanted to give him something.

Unfortunately, these are pokemon, and they don't really understand the concept of weddings and what veils are made of, so the thing he receives is made of bug silk and leaves and with berries for decoration, but they tried? Their hearts are clearly in the right place, even if their fashion sense isn't.

Keith vaguely figures that there might have been connection last year between Snorunt and his Pokémon being super lazy. So, he's going to try to be nice to them. No catching attempt this time.

Wow, Keith. Wow. Are they not good enough to catch or something? Just Wow!

As a result, Keith will be dealing with Great Misfortune during the month of January. This misfortune comes in the form of Joe, a local and somewhat notorious Pansear. He's a little troublemaker, the scourge of quiet neighbours, and for this month, Keith's worst nightmare.

Nobody knows what Keith did to piss off Joe, but piss him off he did. So Keith must prepare for a month of monkey pranks, 'someone' chucking berries at his head, annoying and constant challenges, and yes, also that one thing that monkeys love to do. You know the one.

Oh dear. That nemesis from last year was highly frustrating and just... yeah. So, Romelle will be giving these little guys a wide berth.

The Snorunts don't really understand why Romelle is giving them a wide berth. They'll return the favour, but they are very confused.

As a result, Romelle will be experiencing some ??? Luck during the month. If, at any point, she tries to catch a pokemon, she'll fail to catch the pokemon she is aiming for, but instead will catch a rarer pokemon in that area. Going for a regular pokemon? Oops, turns out your pokeball instead caught a one-star pokemon. It's, uh, good in terms of getting rarer pokemon, but very unfortunate if she really wants that one pokemon.

This is Luna's first run-in with Snorunts, and she finds them rather cute. She will, of course, be attempting to befriend them, offering treats and other things, and be willing to play if they'd like.

It's good that Luna was willing to play with them, but unfortunately, she didn't let them win at tag, and now they are a little sour.

As a result, she'll be experiencing A bit of bad luck during the coming month. Any egg she tries to hatch during this month will take twice as long to hatch than it normally would. The pokemon inside are totally fine, they are just being a bit lazy.

Mando is still hanging out in Goldenrod, and he'll be vaguely baffled by the sudden onslaught of Snorunts. That said, he'll be reasonably nice to them, offering scraps of food as bribes to help Boober shoo them out of the kitchen.

Hooray, food scraps! Their favourite!

As a result, Mando will be experiencing Great Luck during the month of January. This luck will come in the form of old lady Lisbeth and her Skitty Toodles. You see, unfortunately, Toodles climbed up into a tree and got stuck there. If Mando helps her get down her cat, it turns out Ol' Lady Lisbeth is like, mad rich. Like, crazy old lady in the Aristocats rich.

For his great act of service, Mando will not only receive 80.000p (what???) but he will also get offered a dinner for himself and whoever he wants to bring at the fanciest rich people restaurant in town.

Around this time of year awhile back... Heather was canceled by the Chatter Teens online after her dumb dog Pokemon chased the tiny trees all over the place.

She doesn't like being superstitious, buuuuuuut...

This year, Heather is on-edge as she goes about her business with her mons outdoors, and is quick to recall or-- in some cases-- bodily drag her more-rambunctious Pokemon away from the Snover.

She may or may not have caught her Charizard JUGGLING a couple of them of them before she could do anything about it, though. MILDLY PANICKING, she promptly ran over to the nearest coffeeshop only to step back out into the cold with a bunch of muffins, looking wary. She put them on the ground before backing away respectfully. WE'RE COOL, RIGHT????

Heather was quick, but not quite quick enough.

As a result, Heather will be experiencing A bit of bad luck in January. This comes in the form of strange things being left on her doorstep. Who is leaving it there? Why? What is their message? So many questions, no answers.

Oh, she remembers these little dudes and will absolutely offer them part of whatever she's eating and space in her tent if they want it. Otherwise, they're free to do whatever while she chills.

The Snorunts are pretty pleased with Jolyne's offer to let them stay in the tent. Unfortunately, they really want the whole tent, and are put out that Jolyne is still using it.

As a result, Jolyne will be experiencing Great misfortune during January. This comes in the form of every pokemon refusing to let her ride them. Even pokemon that are normally completely fine with it, will suddenly stubbornly refuse. If she wants to get any travelling done this month, it's gonna have to be on foot.

This is a creature she has never seen before! And given she's currently staying in the Pokemon Center with her own fools, she's got some snacks to spare for the little guys. Along with trying to play with them, because she's super curious about the shaking snorunts and maybe them moving might help with their being cold????

The Snorunts cannot seem to make up their minds about the offered snacks. About half of them agree they are the beedrill's knees. The other half thinks they are the worst thing ever.

As a result, Kisara will be experiencing ??? Luck during the month of January. This will come in the form of a tiny, very loud Axew baby that'll wander up to her and cling onto her leg. It looks like he lost his family, and it is up to her to decide if she wants to try and find them (It will take the whole month) or if she'll take him in herself. He is very much a baby though, so quick to cry, quick to get up to mischief, adorable to look at but also very tiring.

Marik's currently with Kaiba traveling to Saffron. Having interacted with non-swarm ones before and finding them adorable pokémon in general, he'll gladly give them treats, play in the snow with them (which he later regrets because it's so damn cold but they were so cute), and let them do pretty much whatever. Even Chenzira joins in on the fun.

The Snorunts are absolutely thrilled he is willing to play with them. Though they seem a bit down when Marik eventually has to stop playing cause it is getting too cold.

As a result, Marik will be experiencing A bit of bad luck during the month of January. This will come in the form of a very hungry Cramorant, who, for whatever reason, has decided that everything Marik owns deserves to be in his belly. And we do mean everything. It'd be one thing if this Cramorant was just trying to steal his food, but this dumb bird doesn't stop there. He'll try and snatch anything Marik is holding and swallow it, whether it is food or not!

Hope Marik knows the Heimlich manoeuvre.
