JKBA game update!

Welcome to March and, uh, a pretty big new game feature!



As you've hopefully been able to glean from the new IC post, we are introducing the Johtonian-Kantonian Breeders Association (henceforth JKBA, cause wow, that's a mouthful) into the game! We've been working on this for a while behind the scenes. And we've had the idea for even longer, but now it's finally here.

As a quick sum-up, the JKBA is a breeder organisation that tries to harness the best and the best breeders under her banner. Breeders who join the JKBA will be obtain a variety of ranks within the organisation, and each comes with its own monthly rewards. There are also additional rewards, such as the ability to borrow pokemon from the JKBA (even including shiny pokemon once you've proven your worth!) and even a fancy new device that can tell you exactly what is inside your eggs.

What we are trying to do by introducing the JKBA is both give breeders a way to test themselves (much like the badges do for trainers) and a way for your character to become a full-time breeder and have that be supported by the game's mechanics!

Obviously, that doesn't mean that if you play a breeder, you have to become a member of the JKBA. It is entirely optional. You can also join, but not rise very high in the ranks. You might not earn as much every month that way, but hey, it's also a lot less pressure!

It's a bunch of information all at once, so please take your time reading it, and if you have any more questions or would like to have something clarified, you can ask them here!

Also, obviously, this is a whole new thing for us too, so please be patient as we work out any kinks!

Coming back, reading over the rankings I do have a question! For Diamond rank, it mentions commenting to receive your specific challenge, but how will Silver Rank work? Will we need to comment after our copper challenge to receive what egg move we're aiming for?

Yes, this is exactly the way. Just drop us a line that your character wishes to take the Silver rank test, and we'll randomly pick an egg-move for you to supply.

So just to clarify, trainers/rockets are completely excluded from this even though many could (easily) pass the lower levels of tests? I'm wondering since even at the lower ranks that's a pretty fantastic source of income, with the only other equivalent in game currently being gym leaders. Who make bank, mind, but that's also a position open to any character willing and able to make the effort for it.

But many characters aren't that ambitious, or don't want the hassle of being tied down to a gym, or the responsibility, or so on. So I was wondering if the lower ranks can't be open to all, or at least a means for non-breeders to get some acknowledgement for their hard breeding work, similar to how gyms can be challenged by anyone but only trainers reap the best rewards for doing so? Since just going by current characters in-game some of the top breeders in terms of expansive egg moves are actually trainers!

It is true that trainers could technically pass the first few tests as well. However, seeing as the JKBA is an elite organisation of breeders specifically, who is only just willing to come around to accepting Otherworlders at all within their ranks, we feel it'd be most logical for them to only allow breeders in at the moment.

That is not to say we aren't willing to revise this in the future. Or find a mechanism through which Team Rocket members could potentially participate too, but we really want to make sure the game mechanism in general works before that.

Ahhh, I see. like mind you, TO CLARIFY, none of mine would be currently interested in pursuing this anyway for assorted reasons, it just seemed odd to me given the massive species and egg move lists we regularly see from trainers like Cecil! Or heck, Riku was pretty much the one who ICly made "let's see how many egg moves I can get on one pokemon" a thing way back when... XD

What info needs to be on the roster for the parents just for the entrance test? I have a post just to keep track of all the Pokemon, but it doesn't tell things like levels or moves known. It just tells names and personalities.

For just the entrance tests, species and gender are enough. However, for any higher-level tests, we will need more info, including level, moveset and whether or not they are shiny/have a hidden ability. Adding in something like egg group is helpful too.
