With holidays on the horizon, it's long past time to start thinking about the real reason for the season and that is gifts. Yes, yes, joy to all, peace on earth etc etc, but deep down what we all want to do is tear some wrapping paper off boxes and be dazzled by the contents.

In order to keep things a bit organized, we'll be putting this up as a central gift-giving post.



Now with that all out of the way, let us take a moment to wish you all a very merry Christmas, happy holidays, and for those that don't celebrate, just a generally nice December.

Finally, as mods we'd like to thank you all for another great and fun year, in which we treated Snorunts, raced Swinubs (okay mostly other Pokemon), time-traveled to prehistoric Johto, got lost in Smeargle art, foiled Rocket plots and dealt with a warp pad fiasco, and rescued passengers from a sinking ship. We look forward to next year (which the mods are busily plotting)!

Fasten your seatbelts, because it is (almost) time for yet another Victory Road Fourth Wall!



From November 22nd to November 29th (one whole week!), Victory Road will once against be breaching its containment walls, dragging friend and foe alike into a maelstrom of weirdness and Pokemon shenanigans. The regions of Johto and Kanto will be saying goodbye to the laws of physics and common sense, and instead be ruled by the capricious whims of, well, whoever it is that causes these weird things to happen. We don't know who it is. Do you?

In any case, during this week, not only your characters will be dealing with a heap of nonsense, but people from outside the game can also take a little stab at having some Pokemon fun. In this info post, we will have a Fourth Wall glossary for anyone who hasn't experienced one of these events before, but as is so common with these events, there will also be a little special twist going on this time. So, there will also be a separate section summarizing that.

General Fourth Wall FAQ (click me!)

What is a Fourth Wall Event?

A Fourth Wall event is an in-game event where people from other games, random characters, even players themselves, just randomly interact with your characters. It's a literal breaking of that invisible "fourth wall" that separates the game-verse from... the rest of the internet. It’s meant to be a silly and fun time, though all kinds of CR can take place during it.

How do you participate?

In short, a character makes a post in the comm or a top-level in the mod-posted catch-all and others tag it. Feel free to just tag around if you don’t want to start a thread of your own. You do not have to stick to your in-game character accounts during this event; you can use characters from other games, crack accounts, player accounts, etc to play!

What kind of characters can participate?

Anything and everything, from AUs to characters from other DW games, ponies, disembodied heads, zombies, Arceus with a saddle, the players, Hello Kitty, and the list goes on...

What about characters coming in, can they have a Pokémon too?

Sure thing! You can bring in any Pokémon from any generation and challenge whoever you want for however much you want. Feel free to knock down or burn down anything. Ride Arceus into battle wearing nothing but a pineapple on your head. It's all good!
Current players are also allowed to have whatever else they want in their party, but all Legendaries will depart after the week is over. No keeping the Groudon that followed you home!

Can my character catch Pokémon to KEEP during the event?

Yes, they may! Feel free to saddle your character with some odd Pokémon they weren't expecting to have like a surprise Magikarp appearing inside their backpack.

There are some exceptions-- Pokemon not listed on the availability pages (Johto, Kanto, Sevii) cannot be kept after the event. For example, your character may encounter a wild Chansey in Lavender Town and keep their new friend, but you would not be able to catch and keep Articuno.

Characters also may not keep Pokemon that were given to them by visiting characters-- feel free to get vague and wibbly-wobbly about how a shockingly similar wild Pokemon (as long as it's on the Availability List!) wound up in your character's possession, but nothing that a visiting character gifts to a resident one will stick around once the week is over.

We’re also trusting that players will keep this reasonable, and stick to just one or two Pokemon to keep after the event.

Would my non-human character remain in their VR form for the event? What about powers?

Up to you! Your character can return to their original form, powers intact, or whatever you like! Have fun.

What about the environment?

With all the strange things going on, feel free to have your characters experience anomalies while they are traveling. Routes that took days to travel before can now be crossed in minutes. Characters can suddenly find themselves waking up in a different city altogether! If your character is far from where they started out when the event ends, feel free to have them remain there!

Can my character keep items they find during the Fourth Wall?

If this item is normally easily obtainable in the world of the game, like a Pokeball from the store or some choice rare berries, then absolutely.

Items like a new house that didn’t previously exist on their street, twenty Masterballs, a car, or piles of rubies that appeared during the event can not be kept. This includes items they may have had access to using their abilities or interacting with the warping environment, or any items from home they didn’t already have with them. They will all disappear at the end of the event!

Will my character remember the event once it’s over? What about previous Fourth Wall events?

It is up to you if your character’s memory suddenly becomes clear and they remember previous Fourth Walls during the span of the event.

Once the event ends, your characters’ memories will be somewhat fractured and mixed up. Recalling the events of the week will feel like recalling an especially vivid dream, but they are true memories. If you need a more concrete reference, figure that a character can remember a little over half of what happens during this period. (Or less if you'd like!)

What happened to that week our characters mysteriously lost?

There's still no explanation for that one. The Professors won't even be reachable for a few days; don't expect them to answer your calls. To make it worse, you may not be where you were last...

What if I just arrived and haven't made an in-character introduction post yet?

Feel free to arrive in the middle of the event! Your character will probably just be that much more confused. You may also hold off until after the event if you wish, in order to not become lost in the confusion.

What if I don't want to participate?

Fourth Wall is not a required event. However, it does affect the game's setting, so logging would have to be backdated or forward-dated to before or after the fourth wall. If you choose not to participate, your character may enter a glitch or be asleep during the event. They will still lose a week's time and be disoriented like everyone else.

Okay, so what's the twist this time?

Optionally, your character may experience a strange hiccup in the general Fourth Wall weirdness, and have their memories overwritten with a version where they're native to this world! That's right, it's time for the full Pokemon trainer AU! Maybe your character was the child of a prominent Pokemon Professor? A delinquint picked up by Team Rocket? A Skitty breeder? A Mythical Pokemon conspiracy theorist? Something else?

And since this is all working on Fourth Wall event logic, there's no set way for this to go, either. The false memory can apply for just part of the event, or for the whole event. It can happen even though your non-human character also regains their "canon" shape - time for an identity crisis, anyone? They may even remember both sets of memories at once and be torn between which is true. Or basically anything else you can think of!

It can even influence other characters, in that optionally they may also remember your character as having always been part of the world. Or not! (This includes NPCs and your Pokemon team, not just other player characters - feel free to have a made up background NPC Pokemon Professor convinced they are your character's parent! We just ask that the individual named NPCs on the NPC FAQ page are off limits - i.e. feel free to have a Nurse Joy remember your character as her cousin-in-law, but not Professor Oak himself.)

Following the end of the event, all memories will return to their normal states regardless - but if you'd like, your character may retain a fuzzy memory of their alternate history! Think the same rules as standard Fourth Wall memories. (NPCs, however, will not remember anything.)

Incoming guest characters may also arrive with false memories or obtain them partway through!

Due to efforts of many emergency responders and trainers, there are no casualties from the sinking of the SS Aria! The ship's passengers and crew make a full escape, including all the Pokemon onboard... one way or another.

Unfortunately, the ship itself does not survive. The tossing waters push it closer to shore before it fully sinks, and the whirlpools of Route 41 draw it in; it ends up finally going down just an hour or two outside the boundaries of Route 41, where it will quickly become a habitat for wild Pokemon. (With even more cantankerous Dhelmise, now that there's a new sunken ship around... such is the cycle of nature.)

The owners of the SS Aria would like to extend a more meaningful thanks to the trainers who kept calm on board and helped with the evacuation, as well as anyone who assisted from onshore, but they're too buried in red tape right now - they're under investigation. For insurance fraud, first of all - that sure was an unusually quickly sunk ship! - but also for connections to Team Rocket. A suspicious amount of Pokemon vanished during this trip... far more suspicious when, in the following week, a large group of concerned trainers sponsors a professional dive to the sunken ship to find their missing Pokeballs, and no Pokeballs at all are found. While the SS Aria administration will eventually be cleared of all wrongdoing, it's going to take many months! For now, all they can offer is sponsoring free rides back to wherever trainers were prior to their cruise trip.

That's not to say there's no reward. Anyone who successfully participated in rescues is going to have grateful trainers thanking them more personally - perhaps just with simple heartfelt thanks, but possibly also with gifts of items, or food, or maybe even offers of Pokemon Eggs. Were you running low on Potions or travel rations? Well, that's not going to be a problem for a while! Were you wanting a Litten even though you haven't made it to Mt. Mortar yet? Maybe you were gifted an Egg.

Meanwhile, over in Team Rocket... middle management is extremely satisfied with the outcome of their investment in this cruise trip. The ship sinking is a shame, as they would've loved to target future trips as well, but they're still more than happy to see the amount of Pokemon brought back this time. Quite a haul! All Rocket participants who brought back stolen Pokemon will get a letter of commendation from their immediate management, some extra privileges for the next few weeks (nicer food at the Rocket cafeterias! a little bonus in their stipend! unlimited shower time with no nasty comments allowed from other Rockets about how they're hogging all the hot water!), and most importantly... their management is thinking of them fondly for the next Rocket mission opportunity...
